The Center for Information Technology Services (CITS) is recruiting for a Manager of UNIX Systems Administration . This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of supporting the UNIX based infrastructure. Work closely with other IT groups and business units to assist with meeting their IT server needs. The position is also responsible for managing the staff responsible for all aspects of UNIX server support, design and implementations. They will enforce operating systems policies and procedures, and has responsibility for the integrity and security of the server infrastructure on premise and cloud-based. Collaborates with upper level administrators and other directors ensuring highly available/ quality service.

Oversee the design, build and implementation of virtual and physical Unix/Linux servers in accordance to requirements and standards. Improve upon existing system designs and automate processes.
Oversee a team of Unix/Linux administrators providing mentoring, performance appraisals/reviews and management of day-to-day activities.
Knowledge of operating systems administration, development, installation and maintenance.
Enforce and creates operating systems policies that would ensure security and integrity or lead to increased efficiency for users, applications, operating systems management, etc.
Recommend upgrades to hardware and software based on existing operations, pending needs and available budget.
Oversee creation and maintenance of Unix related roadmaps for hardware and software and strategic direction
Support core infrastructure technologies required for UNIX hardware management, monitoring and notification.
Oversee Unix team responsibilities for security controls and audits and ensure Unix team compliance and enforcement of security, audit controls and Unix standards
Coordinating critical issue resolution as required
Assist with providing Unix related technologies for disaster recovery and high availability and ensure they are properly used and tested according to business requirements
Off-hours work (evening, weekend) as required by system maintenance and priorities.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, System Administration, Computer Engineering or a related field. (Master's degree and extra certification can be used to substitute for relevant experience).
Experience: Minimum of five (5) years' experience with proficient knowledge of at least two (2) operating systems, such as: Unix/Linux (Red Hat/Suse/CENTOS/Solaris/AIX/HPUX).
Supervisory: One (1) year management or leadership role.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficient with at least three (3) systems/scripting languages, such as Python, Shell (bash, ksh, etc.) PERL or SQL.
Familiarity with multiple information technologies that include operating systems, hardware virtualization, storage, web servers, and email; with expertise in at least one of the technologies.
Familiarity with cloud based architecture and technology services such as Amazon (AWS), Microsoft Azure, etc. Experience with AWS a plus.
Familiarity with enterprise class storage systems using technologies, such as: iSCSI, SAN, NAS and vendors such as EMC, IBM/Hitachi.
Familiarity with wired and wireless operating systems hardware and architectures. Familiarity with Virtual LAN setup and configuration, Virtual Private Network, routing, IPV4, IPV6, etc.
Proficiency with various protocols such as: TCP/IP, NFS, DNS, FTP, etc.
Proficiency in implementing system security, OS hardening and authentication protocols such as LDAP, Kerberos.
Familiarity with configuring, compiling, and installations of third party applications.
Familiarity with configuration and versioning software such as GIT, Ansible, CloudFormation and DevOPS a plus.
Familiarity with the LAMP stack and configuration thereof.
Experience with management of Google Applications for Education is a plus.
Ability to proactively address intricate performance enhancement issues that have potential impact for the campus community.
Proficiency with various Mail Transfer Agents (MTAs), sendmail, postfix as well as knowledge of the underlying SMTP protocol.
Proficiency in office automation tools such as word processors, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
Ability to plan, prioritize and manage resources to work effectively on a multi-member project team including the ability to cooperate with other team members, work within the scope of the divided tasks, and report progress to project leader.
Ability to work effectively on multiple on-going projects.
Good writing and presentation skills.
Ability to provide guidance and assistance to less experienced staff.
Good analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Good organization and time management skills to meet project goals and schedules.
