The candidate for the position of Senior Network Architect must meet the following qualifications:
Bachelorâs degree in a relevant field such as computer science, computer information systems, etc., or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
15 years of progressive experience in network engineering toward advanced network architecture
Expert level certification such as CCIE, JNCIE, or other relevant field.
Expert level knowledge of at least three of the following areas: Backbone and campus design, wireless network design, on-premises load balancing, security architecture or cloud architecture in environments with at least 50,000 users.
Expert level knowledge of network design optimization such as plans to reduce end to end convergence time in complex multi-layer multi-protocol environments (with or without MPLS).
Strong knowledge of Layer 2 along with data center technologies such as Leaf-and-Spine and VXLAN.
Must have experience across multiple vendors such as Cisco, Arista, HPE, Juniper, Aruba or whiteboxes running Cumulus.
Expert level knowledge of multicast and QoS.
Strong knowledge of monitoring systems such as Nagios and Solarwinds.
Strong knowledge of Security appliances and protocols such as various firewalls, SSL/TLS and IPSec.
Strong knowledge of server architecture and system administration on Linux and Windows platforms along with virtualization technologies such as VMWare or KVM.
Strong knowledge of voice technologies in a VoIP environment.
Strong knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or Perl.
Strong knowledge of operations and major incident call leadership.
Ability to create presentation materials, generate reports, and present to appropriate stakeholders, including leadership. Ability to explain advanced concepts to engineers, peers, and leadership.
Ability to collaborate across a large, diverse organization and effectively communicate or negotiate with others.
Ability to function and if needed lead in a structured ITIL environment.
Experience working in a project-based environment, including the ability to report on project status, evaluate project risks, and escalate project issues.
Experience working with a software development life cycle (SDLC) model.
Experience with risk analysis frameworks.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate for the position of Senior Network Architect has the following qualifications:
Masterâs degree in a relevant field such as computer science, computer information systems, etc., or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
At least 10 years with an expert level certification such as CCIE, JNCIE, or other related field.
One of the following certifications: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), CEH, RHCE, VCP (VMWare) or equivalent certification.
Strong knowledge of virtualization and high-density containers networking using Docker and Kubernetes.
Strong knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or Perl along side data models such as YANG or OpenConfig in both configuration and Streaming Telemetry.
Multiple CCIE or JNCIE certifications in Enterprise, Service Provider, Security, Data center, Wireless or Voice.

The Senior Network Architect designs, develops, and maintains a secure network for the university. The Senior Network Architect is responsible for conceptualizing the network architecture by identifying business requirements, creating designs and prototypes, and executing testing activities. This role develops overall network standards, guidelines, leading-edge practices, and approved network techniques and approaches. The Senior Network Architect acts as a thought leader for the organization's network vision and goals. As a member of ITS, the Senior Network Architect demonstrates ITS values in action.
The Senior Network Architect:
Conceptualizes network architecture by identifying business requirements, designs, prototypes, testing activities, and training. Develops overall network standards, guidelines, leading-edge practices, and approved network techniques and approaches. Performs modeling and planning of networks. Maximizes network efficiencies.
Serves as the subject matter expert in network planning, design, implementation, and optimization. Evaluates and recommends effective products and platforms to provide cost-effective solutions that meet architectural and business requirements.
Reviews and analyzes existing network infrastructure and the ability of the infrastructure to support strategic organizational objectives and goals. Assists in the development of network technology roadmaps.
Develops testing and implementation strategies. Troubleshoots and diagnoses network problems. Identifies operational opportunities and gaps. Implements solutions that solve network challenges while meeting business objectives. Advises on risk assumptions for any variances granted. Provides alternatives as needed to achieve desired end results.
Participates in disaster recovery planning, development, exercises, and testing, as well as actual disasters or emergency events, by working in collaboration with security and other teams to create and maintain a secure infrastructure.
Acts as a thought leader for the organization's network vision and goals. Gains insights and anticipates customer pain points, challenges, and needs.
