Reports to: Dean, School of Social Work

As the Director of the Office of Development and Alumni Relations at the School of Social Work you will report directly to the Dean of the School of Social Work, and will lead the fundraising efforts for the School, manage and support the development team, identify and cultivate sources of funding, and plan and implement all fund-raising programs and related activities. You will also collaborate on university-wide development strategy and initiatives with other chief development officers and University Development leadership.

• Oversee the major gift activity, annual giving operations and alumni relations program for the School of Social Work.
• Manage and supervise a department of four staff who are responsible for major gifts (individual and corporate), annual giving, planned giving, grant writing, as well as on- and off-campus development events. Provide leadership for the department: assign and monitor coverage of primary areas of focus, set and evaluate individual goals. Develop and sustain appropriate training and mentoring.
• Identify, qualify, and manage a portfolio of Major and Principle gift prospects with the capacity to make gifts ranging from $50,000- $5M+. Identify, qualify, and manage our planned giving prospects.
• Ensure consistent and appropriate contacts (i.e. solicitations and stewardship) with current donors and prospects.
• Develop the appropriate level of internal communication, reporting, and tracking of fundraising activities and results.
• Provide support to the Dean of Social Work in coordinating development events and meetings, including strategies on select prospects and planning joint visits.  Lead specific projects as directed by the Dean.  
• Work closely with the Office of University Development and units across campus in prospect coordination issues, and in setting priorities for major and planned gift fieldwork on behalf of the School of Social Work.
• Work closely with OUD partners and the Dean to lead the school's preparations for the next capital campaign.
• Participate as a member of the Chief Development Officers group with University Development leadership.
• Appropriately coordinate with the School's faculty concerning involvement with individual prospects and donors and provide strategic leadership and oversight with corporate and foundation prospects and donors.
• Maintain strong lines of communication with other offices and staff within the School of Social Work. Serve on related committees, task forces or advisory groups as needed.
• Manage volunteer identification, recruitment, training and involvement in fundraising activities for the School of Social Work. Be the liaison between the School, the Alumni Board of Governors and the Dean's Advisory Board overseeing all fundraising and alumni relation outreach activities performed by the Boards.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 5 - 10 years successful fundraising experience
• Leadership experience 
• Considerable experience in volunteer management and coordination
•  Ability to travel and participate in evening and weekend activities
• Extraordinary writing and verbal communication skills
• Strong emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills.
• Good judgment in managing confidential information
• Ability to balance competing priorities
• An understanding of, and commitment to, the mission of the School of Social Work
   

• Master's degree
• Knowledge of the University organization, policies, rules and regulations
