The Institute for Research on Innovation and Science (IRIS), part of the INK Program, is seeking a Developer for a full-time appointment. The candidate will bring hands-on technical expertise and experience to a fast-paced technical team. You will report to the Lead Developer. We are a consortium of universities using big administrative data to understand, explain, and improve research and higher education. IRIS is part of the Innovation, Networks, and Knowledge (INK) program at the Institute for Social Research (ISR) at the University of Michigan. ISR is the world’s largest academic social science survey and research organization and conducts some of the most widely-cited and influential social science research in the world. With guidance from the Lead Developer, you will: Contribute to the development of new reports be created in ways that enhance user experience, incorporate interactivity and retain a high degree of quality. (60%) Update existing reports to incorporate the latest technologies in data visualization, creating micro versions that can be posted on the website. (20%) Update IRIS member portal to enhance existing features or add new features. (10%) Serve as a backup to the Lead Developer. (10%)
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or a relevant field AND at least 1 year of successful programming experience (may include internships and other unpaid programming experience) Demonstrated competence in web application development, including an understanding of front-end languages such as JavaScript and JavaScript Frameworks. Ability to learn new programming languages Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects to deadline Effective organization and management of multiple priorities in a complex environment Careful attention to detail Ability to both work independently and as a successful team member
Desired qualifications: Masters’ degree in a relevant field and/or 4+ years of equivalent experience Experience with JavaScript, REACT and d3 Experience with C# and RESTful API. Experience with Python and SQL.
