Overview of the role

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accounting Manager serves as the primary owner of The Trevor Project’s bookkeeping and financial reporting. The Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring transactions are recorded in an accurate and timely manner. This individual will play a key role in the Trevor Project’s financial operations and will support the organization's life saving work by maintaining process accuracy and identifying opportunities to enhance these processes.

What you’ll do

• Own our day-to-day bookkeeping, which includes maintaining our accounting records in Quickbooks Online, performing period-end closing procedures, and researching accounting guidance.
• Produce financial reports for grants including all required financial deliverables as stated per grant awards and contracts.
• Prepare, analyze and present financial reports (income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow) in an accurate and timely manner.
• Produce financial reports for the IRS and state regulatory agencies.  This includes staying up-to-date on internal control best practices, and regulations regarding nonprofit operations.
• Take our current process and improve it to suit the growing needs of our organization.  This includes owning our financial policies and remaining up-to-date on best practices in nonprofit finance and business systems.  Special projects might include revising the Chart of Accounts, implementing Apps onto our Quickbooks Online system, and automating processes.
• Detect and investigate significant variances in our budget-to-actual reports.
• Prepare and own audit materials reviewed by our external auditors.
