The Department of Physics, Georgetown University, is a vibrant community of faculty, students, postdocs, and staff committed to Georgetown's mission as a student-centered research university. Our academic programs feature close student-faculty interactions and include undergraduate majors in physics and biological physics, as well as a novel Industrial Leadership in Physics Ph.D. track for graduate students. Faculty-led research groups are working in areas such as Biological Physics, Hard Condensed Matter, Micro and Nano Technologies, Optics and Imaging, Physics Education, Soft Condensed Matter, Statistical Physics and Ultracold Gases, supported by grants from government agencies such as the National Science Foundation, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, and the Department of Energy.
The manufacturing industry is in the midst of a revolution brought on by new technologies in communications, machine learning, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). These technologies along with low-cost, easy-to-use sensors has led to a plethora of new data streams and types. Applying these technologies in appropriate and cost-effective ways is still a challenge. At NIST we strive to develop methods and tools to help manufacturers meet this challenge. We seek a Fellow to find solutions for storage and analysis of streaming manufacturing data.
The work will entail:
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Investigating storage methods for maintenance data,
Determining methods to stream synthetic data for public consumption,
Analyze heterogeneous data sources.
Presenting results at internal meetings, and occasional meetings with external stakeholders.
Ensuring that results, protocols, software, and documentation have been archived or otherwise transmitted to the larger organization.
A Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.
Familiarity with DevOps and CICD pipelines.
Ability to work with real-time event data at scale.
Familiarity with multiple scripting languages.
Ability to develop prototypes of tools needed to analyze data.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
