Position Description C3D is currently looking for an expert at the interface of High-Performance Computing (HPC) and Middleware development, with core Data Science skills, and those that thrive working in a collaborative environment with leading researchers to create novel HPC software and service solutions. Existing collaborative efforts are focused around key Department of Energy Scientific Research Facilities, such as the National Synchrotron Light Source II, the Center for Functional Nanomaterials, and in support of strategic projects like the Exascale Computing Project (e.g., CANDLE and ExaWorks), as well as the Center for Computational Excellence (HEP). Growth areas include workflows middleware, streaming and data assimilation, and computing for health. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Conduct research into novel and existing middleware, extreme-scale programming models, and applications frameworks in support of large-scale data centric applications and combined HPC/Big Data applications.
- Collaborate extensively with domain scientists to identify, implement and evaluate new programming models in the context of their key data centric workloads.
- Extensively promote the research results through scholarly publications and presentations at leading conferences
- Extensive experience contributing to, and coordinating complex, inter-institutional and multi-dimensional projects
- Successfully attract future research funds through participation in and leadership of research proposals.
Position Requirements Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - BS or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Applied Mathematics
- A minimum 5 years of relevant experience. Demonstrable Experience in High-Performance Computing, design and development of middleware building blocks is required, specifically - knowledge in RADICAL tools, performance engineering, and knowledge of leadership computing platforms.
- In-depth knowledge of scalable scientific application, HPC middleware frameworks, and DOE leadership computing platforms and software ecosystem
- In-depth knowledge of Python, Java and shell scripting, working knowledge of C/C++
- Experience with parallel programming models, such as workflows, MPI or OpenMP
- Extensive knowledge of Linux operating systems
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Knowledge of community and external workflow software systems
- Knowledge of software design paradigms, and their implementation in high-performance and distributed computing middleware
- Knowledge of computing requirements of BNL Facilities, such as ATLAS
