Institutional Research Analyst, Office of Assessment and Decision Support - Georgetown University
Georgetown's Office of Assessment and Decision Support (OADS) provides leadership and coordination in data collection and analysis, institutional research, and assessment in support of University planning, the continuous improvement of educational programs, and the achievement of University mission and goals.
The Institutional Research Analyst leverages data management best practices as well as statistical analyses, helping University executives, senior leadership and administrators obtain and understand the institutional information they need in order to support decision-making. They support the data collection, analytics/analysis, and report preparation needed by the University's planning and institutional research functions; and provide information that is used to make executive level decisions. As part of the OADS team and with a service-oriented focus, they work closely with executive leadership to support their analytical, operational, institutional and survey data needs; and consult with constituents and analyze information needs in order to design, create, and maintain solutions to support decision makers.
Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Institutional Data Analytics, and working closely with the Assistant Director of Institutional Research, the Institutional Research Analyst has duties that include but are not limited to:
Critical institutional Analyses and Reporting
Performs institutional analyses and prepares reports as needed and directed to inform leadership on key decisions.
Performs financial modeling and program analyses to support decision making - e.g., feasibility of new programs, enrollment trends, budget reductions, etc.
Handles the oversight and preparation of periodic and ad hoc reports for the University community, government agencies and external entities.
Manages internal and external reporting responsibilities, including responses to IPEDS, Middle States, COFHE, US News, etc.
Designs and develops ad hoc analyses to support program and department goals and objectives.
Analysis of Information Needs and Design of Solutions
Analyzes information needs and requests to identify new data acquisition and integration requirements.
Designs and models systems to collect, store and deliver data; assesses data presentation needs; designs products (reports, analyses, dashboards, etc.) to meet them; and utilizes and proposes new analytical tools and technologies - e.g., data mining, data visualization, statistical modeling - where appropriate.
Collaborates with peers in OADS and with senior business managers to engage in projects that will be, in many cases, strategic and capacity building.
Creation of Information Products to Support Decision Makers
Develops front-end information products using a variety of analytical tools - e.g., Cognos, Tableau, and Excel.
Prototypes and builds executive dashboards to track key metrics; presents complex data using data visualization tools; and leverages data mining technology to reveal unseen patterns and relationships.
Builds and implements statistical models to support forecasting and predictive analytics; and assists others in using analytical tools and navigating the reporting and analytical repositories.
Creates and publishes reports and analyses to meet needs at all levels.
Design and Coordination of Survey Research Projects
Undertakes survey research projects to meet the needs of a diverse group of campus entities especially in support of the academic mission.
Provides consultation on survey design and administration.
Manages the OADS Qualtrics account.
Analyzes survey data and communicates findings to key audiences.
Performs administrative duties related to the Survey Coordinating Group and the University Survey Research Policy.
Bachelor's degree in Mathematics or Statistics
1 to 2 years of professional experience in an analyst or decision support role, preferably within higher education [Master's degree may be substituted for professional experience]
Experienced in statistical analyses (preferably in R), with a strong working knowledge of research design
Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and verbal written communication skills
A service-oriented, professional demeanor and a team orientation (avoids 'it's not my job')
Poised, diplomatic and confident in handling all situations, especially those of a confidential nature and in interactions with senior and executive University administrators
Ability to work well under pressure and maintain perspective
Skilled and successful at prioritizing work and multi-tasking to meet deadlines
Strong time management skills
Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications
Proficient with visual display of information
Familiar with web design
Familiar with graphical user interface design concepts
Knowledgeable about survey design and analysis principles, including sampling strategies
Demonstrated training in statistical techniques such as linear regression, logistic regression, or time-series analysis
Proficient in use of statistical packages - e.g., SPSS, SAS, Stata, R
Experience with business intelligence tools - e.g., Cognos, Business Objects, Tableau
Familiar with ERP reporting solutions - e.g., Banner ODS, Workday
Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Suite, with a mastery of Excel - VLOOKUP, pivot tables, formulas, etc.
Familiar with relational database design concepts
Strong needs analysis, data modeling, and system design skills
Strong data analysis, data mining, and statistical modeling skills
Fundamental programming and data manipulation skills
Proficient in use of SQL in relational databases - e.g., SQL Server
