Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Officer is responsible for providing leadership for the Foundation's fundraising growth and sustained success. The position will develop long and short-term plans for the Development/Outreach Committee, the Scholarship Committee, annual and endowed scholarships funding increases, three special events, in-kind gifts and grant programs. The position will identify, cultivate, and personally solicit individuals, corporations and private foundations who have the potential to make significant gifts to the Century Foundation's annual and endowed scholarships, major special events, unrestricted and program funds. Specifically, the position is responsible for (1) managing (qualifying, engaging, soliciting, and stewarding) a portfolio of 750+ annual and endowed scholarships, event sponsorships, business and foundation prospects/donors (>$1000), and major gift prospects/donors ($2,500-$50,000+) and (2) strengthening opportunities for college constituencies to grow their financial and in-kind giving.
· Implement and cultivate major gift and in-kind giving programs by developing and implementing short- and long-range fundraising work plans and annual goals to increase giving in the following areas:
annual and endowed scholarships
business and foundation gifts
sponsorships for three special events including the college employee DREAMS campaign, Scholarship Banquet, Futures in Bloom and in-kind giving.
· Develop a strong relationship with 250 potential donors per year by identifying effective communication strategies and moves documenting a minimum of five current or potential contacts each week through personal cultivation, solicitation and stewardship in coordination with the Foundation Executive Director and the Development/Outreach Committee and Scholarship Committee.
· Lead development strategies for promotion of the Foundation's annual and endowed scholarship giving, , major giving, Futures in Bloom spring event, Scholarship Banquet fall event, DREAMS fall campaign, prospective donor tours and in-kind giving programs.
· Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of 500+ major gifts prospects and donors.
· Track and run reports in data base on the status of major gift prospects and donors.
· Prospect research and outreach working with Development/ Outreach and Scholarship Committees to prioritize outreach strategies to prospective donors in the area of unrestricted gifts, businesses, healthcare, and college Pathways programs, capital projects and through tour and event invitations.
· Prepare budgets related to annual and endowed scholarships solicitations, event sponsorship opportunities, capital projects and business and fundraising and stewardship.
· Bachelor's degree
· Three to five years' experience in fundraising corporate, educational or other non-profit.
· Ability to make small and large group presentations and conduct meetings with various stakeholders.
· General working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites
· Demonstration of excellent written and oral communications skills for various channels (print, email, website, and social media).
· Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule involving attending local events and traveling throughout the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area, and on occasions out of state.
· Master's Degree
· Experience in higher education fundraising
· Demonstrated ability to handle a large number of fundraising activities simultaneously with creativity and independence
· Experience in writing corporate and private foundation proposals
· Experience using customer relationship management databases
· Knowledge of fundraising trends and best practices, specifically related to estate/in-kind gifts, major gifts, and donor stewardship.
· Experience working in a deadline-driven environment, with specific attention to outcomes and goals.
· Experience working both independently and in a team structure.
· Demonstration of excellent negotiation skills and record of success in personal solicitations and closing major gifts.
· Interest in education and a dedication to promoting the college's fundraising priorities through developing excellent relationships with faculty, academic leaders, staff, other fundraising professionals, volunteers, and other supportive members/areas of the college community.
· High degree of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion in engagements with donors, volunteers, and donor prospects.
· Demonstrated ability to deal with complex concepts and ambiguity.
· High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
· Ability to use problem solving skills and creativity to meet deadlines, be accountable to donors, foundation Board of Directors, and college personnel, and to gather data and respond to inquiries.
· Demonstrated leadership and ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas.
· Ability to embrace the culture and values of Century College and to articulate the College mission.
