The Statistical Analyst will work with two faculty members to provide key support on a variety of empirical projects (ranging from 3-6 projects at a given time) related to health insurance coverage and health care delivery. Possible projects include, but are not limited to, the following:
Evaluating emergency response programs across rural and urban hospitals in the U.S. to understand effective practices for future crisis events
Examining aspects of the organizational environment, care processes, and interprofessional practice in relation to improved health outcomes
Evaluating federal bundled payment models
Evaluating the insurance, health care, and possible economic impacts of age-related rules for adolescents and young adults with disability or potentially disabling conditions
Comparing the health care use and claims-based outcomes among disabled beneficiaries under age 65 in Medicare Advantage (managed care plans) relative to traditional fee-for-service Medicare.
Analyzing claims databases to understand the impact of health insurance, delivery, and payment reforms on the care of people with substance use disorder. Analyzing whether and how payment and reforms influence a) the way provider networks care for people with substance use disorders and b) health care use and outcomes for people with mental illness and substance use disorders
Evaluation of new specialty care delivery systems in the safety net
Examination of the evolution and impact of increasing specialization in the physician workforce
Analyzing the landscape of the substance use disorder treatment delivery system in the US
The successful candidate will be able to work autonomously, while performing high level statistical programming, data compilation and cleaning in addition to other research related duties.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Statistical programming using STATA (or similar) on large, complex data sets (For example: analyzing data sets extracted from databases with millions of members or health insurance claims)
Comfort using a variety of statistical approaches including the application of regression models, factor analysis, and tools to address such issues as endogeneity
Descriptive data analysis and validation of empirical results from statistical models
Participating in manuscript presentations with opportunities for co-authorship
Performing literature reviews
Coordinating IRB submissions and compliance through developing Human Subject Research Protocols
Compiling and cleaning data sources as well as assessing the data quality; routine data maintenance
Assisting with grant reporting and developing & communicating submission timelines to the team
Producing charts and tables for manuscripts and presentations
Analyzing pilot data, and creating exhibits or short sections of text to support grant applications for new projects
Other duties as assigned
PLEASE NOTE: This position has a term appointment of one year from the date of hire with the possibility for extension.
PLEASE NOTE: The primary work location for this position is Boston, MA and in order to be on Harvard payroll, you must reside in one of the following states – MA, NH, RI, ME, CT, VT, NY, or MD. We are also working primarily remotely at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Until our return to campus, which is anticipated to begin in fall 2021, this interview process and position will be conducted virtually – including virtual interviews, remote onboarding, and remote work. The remote nature of this position is only temporary. Local, on-campus work will be required as a condition of continued employment once the School and this role return to an operational status that supports it. The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health will support flexible work schedules upon this return, subject to individual departments' business needs.
