This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing marketing and communications activities for the Office of Alumni Engagement and Development (AED) which is a unit of the Office of Institutional Advancement (OIA).
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Alumni Engagement and Development, the Director will also have a strong dotted line collaboration with the Communications and Marketing units for brand alignment, and in order to integrate alumni engagement and development plans into broader OIA and UMBC strategic priorities.
The Director of Alumni and Development Communications and Marketing will develop and execute strategic communications and marketing initiatives in support of team and divisional priorities. The Director, working with an Assistant Director, will collaborate with teams in Alumni Engagement, Annual Giving, and Major Gifts. The Director supports the divisional goals of fundraising (annual giving and major gifts) through providing content for and scheduling appeals, direct mail, case statements, proposals and event collateral and digital assets. For Alumni Engagement, the director is a key partner for developing event communication content and driving event marketing strategy. The Director is an important liaison to the Office of Institutional Advancement Communications and Marketing units and, in that capacity, provides story ideas and content for the UMBC magazine, website content, events, and other communications as well as providing content for UMBC websites.
The Director will make decisions regarding: Communications strategy (messaging, channels, and format); marketing strategy (raise awareness of alumni/giving; grow and maintain donors; increase engagement; alumni brand adoption) ; data management; budget management; staff supervision.
The Director will have extensive/daily contact with OIA colleagues. The position also works with key stakeholders, both internal (UMBC leadership, academic leaders, students), and external (alumni and donors).
