TheUniversity of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Office of Animal Welfare Assurance has an opportunity for an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) Analyst . The Office of Animal Welfare Assurance (OAWA) is the regulatory oversight office for the UMB Animal Care and Use Program, and provides support for the UMB Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). The selected candidate will provide technical and administrative review of laboratory animal research proposals prior to submission to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). The incumbent in this position will provide support and guidance to investigators from initial proposal review and submission through completion of the study. The incumbent in this position will also coordinate submission and revisions with the Committee.

Performs pre-committee analysis of protocols; reviews for completeness and compliance with regulations and IACUC policies.
Begins assessment of laboratory animal use proposals, ensuring compliance with Office, University, and regulatory (USDA, OLAW, etc) policies and determines when IACUC requirements of approval have been met and issue approval documentation.
Attends IACUC meeting(s) and writes detailed meeting summaries regarding ethical and animal welfare issues analyzed by committee and documents the final determinations of the IACUC.
Serves as liaison between IACUC and investigators.
Writes clear and detailed correspondence to investigators.
Maintain clear and accurate IACUC files both electronically and as hard copies.
Ensures that ethical issues are addressed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree.
Experience: Four (4) years experience working in animal research or research administration. Experience in animal welfare assurance or an institutional animal program facilities and procedures preferred.
Certificate Licensure: Certified Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA) preferred.

The Hiring Range for this position is in the mid $70,000s to mid $80,000s,commensurate with education and experience.
