The Geospatial Collaborative at University of Missouri-St. Louis and the Community Innovation and Action Center at the University of Missouri-St. Louis seek to hire a GIS Data Analyst to work with both groups. The Geospatial Collaborative is the platform and center for coordinating UMSL and academic initiatives in partnership with defense, industry, workforce development, and government sector leaders around the use of geospatial technologies.

This is a ground-floor opportunity to be part of an innovative new organization that will leverage the national security and geospatial ecosystems in Missouri and serve in a community level capacity with nonprofit partners in the region. The professional who fills this role is expected for perform GIS data development, integration, and analysis, produce maps and graphics, and extract, analyze and report data. This work requires skill with finding and exporting data files from government and nonprofit agencies.
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Has a master's degree in a related field and/or substantive experience in the geospatial, national security, social sciences, computer science, urban planning, architecture, urban design, real estate or a related field, or community development ecosystems;
Has knowledge of geospatial technologies and experience with data science and analysis,
Can create, maintain and update GIS databases using the ESRI suite of ArcGIS software.
Can collect, prepare, digitize and code spatial data into GIS format and convert GPS data into GIS datasets.
Can conduct mapping research to ensure accurate use of data and resolve conflicting information.
Can evaluate, analyze and implement GIS information needs and/or assist technical professionals in analysis and assessment of a variety of disciplines.
Can generate reports and produce graphics for use internally and by partners.
Can interpret source documents, such as engineering plans, plot maps, and legal descriptions and enter required data into the GIS.
Can provide technical assistance and support for GIS projects, applications, and data.
Can perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Demonstrates commitment and ability to work collaboratively within a complex work environment;
Has excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills required; and
Has proven critical thinking, problem solving, and judgment skills.
2+ years of professional experience working in government, community development, urban planning, or housing development.
Experience using Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) products in cartographic production, GIS or GPS analysis (2-4 years preferred).
Demonstrated experience building connections with community groups.
Demonstrated ability to work with and analyze census data.
Demonstrated skills in python scripting will be considered valuable.
Strong writing and editing skills.
Good communications skills with diverse audiences.
Able to manage projects and communicate with clients and partners.
