The Center on Philanthropy & Public Policy at USC is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Director ofDevelopment and External Relations, a vital role at The Center. This position reports directly to the Senior Associate Director and is responsible for supporting The Center's fundraising and communications efforts. The primary job functions include, but are not limited to; working with the Senior Associate Director to plan and execute The Center's special events, including the Distinguished Speaker Series, Conversations on Philanthropy and national forums; assisting in development of strategic communications, including maintaining The Center's website; and updating, maintaining and utilizing The Center's CRM database for use in communications and fundraising. In addition, the individual supports The Center's fundraising efforts including: managing the gift deposit and acknowledgement process; conducting prospect research; and drafting grant proposals and reports. He or she will further prepare press releases, event summaries and Center newsletters, and provide administrative support. Bachelor's degree with three-five years of relevant experience in development or external relations. Background in strategic communications experience is valued
Able to self-manage, prioritize work assignments, manage multiple deadlines, and represent The Center in different environments
Excellent oral and written communications skills; ability to manage communications with a high attention to detail and accuracy
Proven ability to problem-solve and follow-up appropriately on process and procedural issues
Excellent planning and organizational skills
Detailed knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in the use of office computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite and CRM database. Email marketing, website development/coding and Adobe Creative Suite a plus
Proficiency organizing and working with database systems
Experience managing files and content and administering sites within a web-based content management system

Established in 2000, The Center promotes effective philanthropy and strengthens the nonprofit sector through research and convenings that inform philanthropic decision making and public policy to advance community problem solving. The Center does this by conducting research on philanthropy, volunteerism, and the nonprofit sector; and sharing findings and their implications as well as emerging issues by convening decision makers.
