DEERFIELD ASSOCIATES has been retained by King School, located in Stamford, Connecticut, toconduct a national search for a Director of Development and Alumni Programs.
King is the convergence of three founding schools - Low-Heywood, King, and Thomas - that, from the beginning, shared similar educational missions. By 2008, the merged entity, King Low Heywood Thomas School, was known by its nickname, King, and the rebranding as King School was completed in 2016. King prioritizes teaching inquiry-based learning; through research, project-based learning, and collaborative and interdisciplinary work, students deepen their understanding, open their minds and learn to think courageously. King School is dedicated to preparing its students to thrive in a rapidly changing world. King School currently enrolls 700+ students in grades Prekindergarten to 12; includes 190 faculty and staff, enjoys an average class size of 12 students, a teacher/student ratio of 1:6, and has 23 percent of students who identify as students of color. The Director of Development and Alumni Programs (DOD) is the School's chief development officer. The DOD is responsible for the leadership, management and overseeing all activities and events related to fundraising. Central to this effort is the development of strong relationships with all constituent groups: administrators, alumni, donors, faculty and staff, parents, and trustees. The Director of Development and Alumni Programs, and the development staff, promote the School’s philanthropic initiatives effectively to all school constituencies. The DOD reports directly to the Head, is member of the school’s Leadership Team, and works closely with the Associate Head of School for Advancement and the Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications to ensure strategic alignment between the offices of Admission, Development, and Marketing and Communications. The DOD works closely with the Development Committee of the Board, the Trusteeship Committee of the Board, and the Parents’ Association. The ability to serve in this high-visibility position is ideal for a front-line fundraiser who excels both as a fundraiser and a manager of staff (a player/coach) who also enjoys working closely with faculty, staff, alumni, parents, volunteers and trustees.
While this opportunity is available immediately, the King School is very open to receiving inquiries from individuals who may not be able to start until July 2022. The search will be filled following a comprehensive national search and the identification of the candidate of choice.
