Hastings Mutual is currently looking for a Project Manager. The individual in this role will plan, execute, and finalize projects according to strict deadlines and within budget. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members, third-party contractors, and consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan. The Project Manager will also define the project’s objectives and oversee quality control throughout its life cycle.
We're interested in candidates with a current project management background (typically 3-5 years) who have a desire to grow and elevate their careers further within this space. Reporting to the Director, Project Management and IT Governance, this role will interact with members and stakeholders across our business, and be based at our Hastings, Michigan corporate offices.
Position Duties & Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
Defines project scope, goals, and deliverables that support business objectives in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
Effectively communicates project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
Liaises with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
Sets and continually manages project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
Plans, schedules, and tracks project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.
Determine the content of status reports from the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas.
Conducts project post mortems and creates a recommendations report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
Acquisition & Deployment
Estimates the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals. Where required, negotiate with other department managers for the acquisition of required personnel from within the company.
Drafts and submits budget proposals, recommending subsequent budget changes where necessary.
Determines and assesses the need for additional staff and/or consultants and makes the appropriate recruitments if necessary during the project cycle.
Directs and manages project development from beginning to end.
Develops full-scale project plans and associated communications documents.
Delegates tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
Identifies and resolves issues and conflicts within the project team, managing project dependencies, and critical path.
Develops and delivers progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.
Proactively manages changes in project scope, identifying potential crises and devising contingency plans.
Coaches, mentors, motivates, and supervises project team members and contractors, influencing them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
Builds, develops, and grows any business relationships vital to the success of the project.
Candidate Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Business Management, Computer Science or related field.
3-5 years' direct work experience in a Project Management related role (Project Coordinator, Business Analyst, Junior Project Manager, etc.) capacity, with experience including all aspects of process development and execution.
PMI Certification, or equivalent experience required.
Knowledge of industry-standard Software Development Life Cycles, ITIL, etc. Experience with Azure DevOps is a plus.
Detailed-oriented with excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication ability.
Demonstrated experience in prioritizing tasks and balancing workloads to meet objectives, including human capital management.
Technical competence in Project Management software (e.g., MS Project) in addition to Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, etc.
