The Michigan Municipal League (the League) is seeking an art developer to join our strategic communications (StratComm) team. The starting salary range for this position will be based on qualifications. The selected candidate will contribute to the success of the League’s strategic communications goals by developing and creating print and electronic publications, website and digital assets, event branding/materials, and a variety of other design deliverables as they arise. Comfort with outside vendors and collaboration with other designers under the leadership of our brand & creative manager is key. Our ideal candidate has an eye for creative detail, is a self-starter with great initiative and problem-solving skills, and can translate business needs into actionable creative solutions. They thrive in a fast-paced and changing environment, are willing to take on new challenges, and can effectively multi-task and nail deadlines. This role will interact with a lot of different personalities with competing priorities so being comfortable and flexible traversing between individual contributor and team player is essential.
If you were working for us, here are just some of the things you would do:
Create print and digital marketing materials, such as the League magazine, e-newsletters, handbooks, flyers, internal ads, event branding/signage/staging, social media graphics, HTML email graphics/templates, and website assets while maintaining the League’s brand standards.
Work closely with Brand & Creative Manager and external brand vendor to support the creation and rollout of the League’s future rebrand and become a League brand ambassador along the way.
Support graphic requests related to our upcoming website re-platforming and website rebranding.
Review materials and ensure accuracy of layouts during entire review process. Touch up and color-correct images as needed.
Consistently strive to ensure deadlines are met and processes are improved, sharing ideas for improvement with the entire StratComm team along the way.
About You: Our ideal candidate will have:
Education or technical training equivalent to an associate’s degree is required. A bachelor’s degree in graphic design, web design or related field is preferred.
Two or more years of professional graphic design experience is required. Previous experience working with non-profits and/or local government will be helpful.
A strong online portfolio is required.
Strong knowledge and proficiency in Adobe CS, specifically InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Skill in photography, HTML, WordPress, PowerPoint, video editing, or other related programs would be nice to have too.
Experience working with external print vendors will be very helpful.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills is required.
Excellent organizational skills and close attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities with a high sense of urgency to meet deadlines is required.
Ability to illustrate simple to complex graphic concepts.
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and efficiently plan, organize, and implement work priorities.
Ability and desire to learn new skillsets and master new technologies.
Ability to work and communicate effectively with different personalities and individuals at all levels.
