The Office of Academic Affairs, Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) has an opportunity for an Instructional Design Developer or Senior Developer . This position is responsible for working with faculty and others to guide the planning, design, development and implementation of distance education courses at UMB. The selected candidate is responsible for curriculum innovation, content design and for ensuring the development and maintenance of the highest quality distance education courses. In addition the Developer/Senior Developer explores and tests emerging instructional technologies for use in an academic setting, and provides training and support for faculty to advance and improve their skills in online learning. The ideal candidate should be knowledgeable of adult learning theory, distance education pedagogical techniques, course development planning and project management. The selected candidate will ideally have previous experience with the Quality Matters course design and evaluation process, and familiarity with the ADDIE or AGILE approach to course design. The Specialist/Senior Specialist should have knowledge and experience in writing instructional objectives that utilize Blooms Taxonomy. In collaboration with the Office of Academic Affairs/Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning, the Specialist/Senior Specialist will execute a vision for innovation in distance/online education and will effectively collaborate to create high quality student learning experiences.
Applicants will be considered for either an Academic Development Specialist or a Senior Academic Development Specialist level depending on education and experience.

Developer Primary Duties:
Partners with faculty to update existing online courses to meet Quality Matters standards.
Coordinates planning, designing and development of course content and assessments for new distance education offerings.
Works with faculty, and peer review teams to ensure course design with strong alignment of course objectives, content and assessments consistent with Quality Matters standards.
Assists in the development and delivery of workshops or seminars to promote best practices in teaching and learning; distance education, curriculum and course design.
Manages the prioritization of curriculum initiatives and course development activities as they relate to degree programs implementation and quality assurance.
Supports the detailed Quality Matters review process of distance/online education courses to ensure that academic standards, institutional polices and processes are met.
Researches new and innovative curriculum and distance education practices.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Senior Developer Primary Duties:
Directs faculty to engage in the course development process to assure, quality matter essential standard compliance. Presents evidence-based research in the neuroscience of learning.
Designs and creates processes and procedures to ensure pedagogically sound course construction. Executes a peer review of the education courses to ensure that academic standards, institutional policies and processes are met.
Designs and implements faculty training on new and established pedagogical and andragogic principles to assure quality of instruction.
Guides faculty to revise and update courses to assure ongoing Quality Matters standards adherence and work toward Quality Matters formal recognition.
Designs and disseminates workshops, poster presentations and invited presentations regionally and nationally to advance and promote best practices in teaching and learning, curriculum design, course design, teaching with technology and distance education.
Contributes and manages the course design steps and process to advance new programs and degrees through the approval process.
Researches and pilots new innovative curriculum and teaching with technology practices.
Maintains professional development and disseminates information and best practices to the UMB learning community.
Performs other related duties as assigned such as: Partners with registration, enrollment, IT, and library to facilitate students experience; collaborates with library to optimize use of HSHL resources; manages external vendors to assure ADA compliance; evaluates new software, hardware, tools to advance and operationalize innovative learning designs and experiences; participates and serves on institutional committees.
Instructional Design Developer
Education: Master's degree in psychology, education, counseling, or a related field of study.
Experience: Three (3) years of related experience providing educational skills counseling, training, instructional design, or other related experience.
Senior Instructional Design Developer
Education: Master's degree in psychology, education, counseling, or other related field of study.
Experience: Five (5) years of related experience providing educational skills counseling, training, instructional design, or other related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Outstanding communication skills-oral, written, presentation and digital.
Ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve team project goals
Experience using Blackboard or similar learning management system.
Skill in continuous quality improvement.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in written and the online production of course materials.
Preferred Knowledge Skills, and Abilities
Project management experience.
Knowledge of Quality Matters and Middle States accreditation standards
Knowledge of Blooms taxonomy for creation of instructional objectives
Experience as a teacher, trainer and or professional development instructor
Accomplished digital and software skills, for example:
Intermediate to advanced skill in the use of Microsoft Office applications, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, Windows 10
Intermediate to advanced skill in the use of the Blackboard Course Management System preferred
Hiring Range for the Instructional Design Developer position is low to mid $70,000s, commensurate with education and experience.
Hiring Range for the Senior Instructional Design Developer position is mid to high $80,000s, commensurate with education and experience.
