Center for New Designs in Leadership & Scholarship (CNDLS) is Georgetown University's teaching and learning center. We're here to help faculty and graduate student instructors deepen their impact on student learning. To do that, we promote effective pedagogical practices and advance innovative designs and technologies. We are dedicated to supporting faculty through all facets of teaching and learning, from learning design support to cultivating innovative and equitable classrooms and beyond.
The
Web Designer collaborates with project leads, designers, and developers to help drive principles of clear, elegant, accessible, creative, and responsive web design across the organization; and works hands-on as an individual contributor doing visual and user interface design for the various web projects. The Web Designer works closely with project teams on creative design, planning, and execution; and works with CNDLS leadership to ensure that the design ethos and approach are in alignment with the Center's overall strategy.
Reporting to the Senior Associate Director for Digital Learning and Development, the
Web Designer has responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Create accessible and responsive web design concepts, and execute layout designs for websites, web applications, and online course templates based on feedback from the above group
- Create wireframes, low-fidelity prototypes to quickly visualize, sketch, and communicate solutions to complex design problems for the web
- Collaborate with project leads, content managers, designers and developers on designing user experience and interactions
- Conduct relevant stakeholder and user research to formulate good design concepts for projects
- Serve, together with a developer, as CNDLS liaison to University groups on web design standards
- Take ownership of and document style guide and design patterns for CNDLS' various web presences
- Research new design approaches and share with colleagues to help CNDLS cultivate a leading-edge approach to its digital presence
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in interaction design, visual design or a related field
- At least 2 years of experience with interaction and visual design for web-based experiences and applications
- Knowledge of web accessibility
- Proficiency with Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD, and InDesign)
- Basic knowledge of atomic design and design patterns
- Basic working knowledge of HTML and CSS
- Working knowledge of Information Architecture
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment
