The Michigan Opioid Prescribing Engagement Network (Michigan OPEN) is a highly successful statewide program designed to identify best practices in opioid prescribing for common surgical procedures, optimize patient care for vulnerable patients, highlight opioid alternatives, and ensure accessible options for safe opioid disposal and storage. The Clinical Information Analyst will be responsible for and will perform the day-to-day tasks associated with data management for various healthcare data sourced by Michigan OPEN. This role will interact and collaborate on a consistent basis with other business/functional analysts, data analysts, research teams, and data stewards to obtain and integrate data from different systems. This position is an integral part of a high-performing team responsible for data analytics within Michigan OPEN.
- Develop and enhance data pipelines to extract, clean, transform, and merge raw data from various data sources and construct usable analytic datasets based on specifications
- Manage, track, and fulfill requests for datasets and respond to data queries in a timely and accurate manner
- Collaborate and coordinate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and ensure that data exchange and transfers follow established protocols
- Design and develop robust methods to detect missing or poor data; assess data quality and reasonableness prior to distribution
- Develop and maintain appropriate reference materials, including data dictionaries and documentation of data elements, data mapping and definitions
- Identify opportunities for improvement and recommend solutions for better operational processes for data management
- Track publication of research manuscripts and ensure compliance with National Institutes of Health (NIH) Public Access Policy
- Assist with the management of data use agreements and amendments
- Support the preparation of grant proposals, presentations, conference, or scientific paper submissions
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Biostatics, Public Health or related field
- Strong, demonstrable SAS programming skills and experience with relational databases, complex data structure, and linkages between data sources
- Excellent communication, both oral and written in English language, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to learn, be proactive and motivated, and consistently focus on detail and execution
- Ability to plan, prioritize, organize, and efficiently work on multiple projects at the same time
Intermediate Required Qualifications
- At least 3 years of professional experience in data management (including cleaning, transforming, linking, assessing data quality etc.) required for placement at the intermediate level
Senior Required Qualifications
- At least 5 years of professional experience in data management (including cleaning, transforming, linking, assessing data quality etc.) required for placement at the intermediate level
- Experience working with healthcare data and/or insurance claims data
- Flexibility and ability to work independently and collaboratively with multiple researchers, including trainees with varying levels of training
- Ability and willingness to learn additional statistical software and programming languages
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
This position is a five-year term limited appointment with potential for extension based on grant funding and performance. At the end of the stated term, the appointment may terminate and will not be eligible for Reduction in Force (RIF) benefits.
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
