The Accountant is a key member of the Chief Accounting Office (CAO) within the Finance organization supporting the Actuarial Accounting & Reporting unit. This role is critical to the close process with a focus on accuracy and timeliness. As part of the highly visible Actuarial Accounting & Reporting team, the Accountant will have the opportunity to help streamline existing processes; improve efficiencies and partner with senior leaders to identify, analyze, evaluate, and deliver strategic initiatives across the organization. This role will report to the Senior Director of the Actuarial Accounting & Reporting team.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Support Manager and Director in the analysis and reporting of financial results
Prepare and upload monthly journal entries
Run Microsoft Access queries to support monthly close
Prepare various year-end industry surveys
Research and detail variance findings between current results and prior periods
Assist in preparing presentations for Senior Management

Financial Reporting: Knowledge of processes, methods, and tools of financial reporting; ability to create and maintain accurate and thorough financial reports.

Bachelors degree with Accounting, Finance, Mathematics and/or Computer Science major required
2+ years accounting and/or finance work experience required
Experience working in Financial / Insurance industry a plus
Ability to work independently to meet project deadlines, and work within a fast-paced, project-driven and team environment a plus
Demonstrates analytical skills and capability to work with large amounts of data
Proven communication skills are essential as the candidate will be required to converse with individuals of all levels in various departments of the Company
Understanding of US GAAP accounting and reporting concepts
Proficient in Excel, Working knowledge of Microsoft Access
Knowledge of SQL, VisualBasic a plus, willingness to develop such skills a must
Flexibility to provide late and weekend close coverage during quarterly closes
