Assistant Director of Development (ADoD) is responsible for increasing the number of donors, and the number and level of philanthropic gifts in support of the Office of Advancement focused on medical research and Georgetown University Medical Center-wide priorities. In addition, the ADoD will engage donors and volunteers in various activities and events in order to sustain and deepen their connection with Georgetown University Medical Center over time. The incumbent works with the Senior Director of Development, GUMC and the Senior Associate Vice President of Development, academic leaders, faculty, MedStar and Georgetown University officials and volunteers to design and implement annual fundraising plans to support key institutional priorities. The ADoD knowledgeably and articulately communicates the case for support; effectively identifies, cultivates and solicits potential donors, and works closely with colleagues in annual fund, donor relations, stewardship, event planning, and prospect research. The ADoD maintains a portfolio of individuals, grateful patients, and select corporate/foundation prospects and donors.
Work InteractionsThe incumbent reports to the Senior Director of Development, GUMC. The Assistant Director of Development works closely with senior administration, faculty, staff, lead volunteers, and assists with other volunteer leadership groups. They liaise with appropriate advancement services units within the Office of Advancement of Georgetown University and MedStar Health for the Joint campaign for medicine.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree
- At 2 years of progressively responsible development experience - preference for science or medical-related fundraising field, including volunteer management and solicitation experience
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of or ability to learn an array of medical specialties and disciplines in the basic science area/strong computer skills, including all Microsoft applications, as well as proficiency using fundraising and prospect/donor management software
- Flexibility, initiative, self-discipline, attention to detail; and ability to lead, motivate, and work collaboratively with others both internal and external to the institution
- Ability to perform other duties as periodically assigned by AVP and/or GUMC Advancement leadership
- Ability to build an effective fundraising program for specific GUMC and Joint Campaign priorities from baseline utilizing a grateful patient constituency
- Ability to engage with new or emerging GUMC programs and initiatives as appropriate
- Willingness and availability for travel, as well as for periodic weekend and after-hours work
Work Mode: Hybrid (2 days on campus, 3 days telework). Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University.
