Director Business Intelligence and Visualization Development
The Enterprise Business Intelligence and Visualization team manages the largest distribution channel for the dissemination of customer, operations, and financial data throughout MetLife, and is responsible for provisioning complete and accurate data, reports, visualizations, actionable analyses, and solutions through the deployment and use of powerful and easy-to-use capabilities. Through our efforts to establish, promote and drive adoption of best-in-class Business Intelligence practices, standards, and techniques, provide education and expert consultation to all teams, throughout all levels of the Enterprise, we strive to fulfill our purpose of infusing and championing data literacy and data driven decision making at MetLife.
The Director of Business Intelligence and Visualization Development role is responsible for leading the design, development and implementation of critical business intelligence initiatives and projects that contribute to strategic decision-making across the institution.
The Director of Business Intelligence and Visualization:
Provides vision and leadership to ensure maturation of business intelligence within the institution
Collaboratively and extensively investigates, analyzes and interprets business information needs based on a strong understanding of business processes, drivers and priorities
Directly manages a team of junior data analysts, data modelers, reporting, BI and visualization developers
Provides hands-on leadership by actively participating and directing all aspects of these disciplines
Formulates and delivers actionable reporting with data visualizations for business owners to gauge performance and assist with optimization decisions
Develops and implements governance and post-implementation evaluation over all activities to ensure outcomes achieved meet objectives
Introduces process improvements to reduce error rates
Extends and enriches relevant data available for use in BI solutions
Establishes and promotes the use of automation to enhance efficiency
Delivers solutions and drives adoption of self-service reporting for business and operations stakeholders
Essential Technical Skills:
Bachelor's in computer science, Engineering, Business Administration
≥ 8 years of experience and expertise with Business Intelligence tools - Cognos Analytics Power BI, Qlik
Proficient SQL skills
Experience in Performance tuning techniques from report/data model level.
Experience working in Analytics projects with strong analytical skills and clear understanding of data warehousing concepts and techniques
Must be organized, detail oriented and able to efficiently function under pressure and be able develop and present analysis and recommendations in a clear, concise manner
Ability to effectively manage multi-task operations and projects within deadlines and key decision making. Advantageous to have project management or leadership skills to manage the team and deliverables, including meeting deadlines and experience with establishing and maintaining effective work relationships are essential.
Demonstrated leadership ability, including intellectual curiosity with a focus on diversity and inclusion
Strong professional skills, including written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills
SAFe® for DevOps/ SAFe® for Teams /ASE certification
Experience in with insurance industry
Strong systems skills especially in implementation, maintenance, enhancement, and documentation.
Experience with data governance standards and best practices
Solid understanding of Cloud Native database technologies and big data acceleration tools
