The Network Engineer III is responsible for the developing standard configurations and procedures to facilitate the LAN, WAN, WLAN, Data Center network and IP based Telephone services that serves Ohio University.
This position is accountable for development, implementation, and operation standards for various pieces of network equipment including Routers, Switches, Firewall, Wi-Fi services, IP Address Management solutions, Telephone equipment and services, etc..; and assuring interoperability between devices and the network and telephone service. This position will assist in troubleshooting complex issues and in implementation of unique and/or complex changes. This position will assist with developing project requirements, implementation plans, scheduling, and bills of materials for projects and service changes. This position requires a seasoned knowledge of enterprise class IP based network systems and associated technologies.
Engineering & Architecture. Maintain advanced knowledge of industry trends and emerging technologies; make recommendations for modifying infrastructure and/or services to meet current and future needs; assist in engineering robust and scalable University wide network and telephone services in alignment with industry trends and best practices. Assist in development of standards and operational procedures; ensure the necessary documentation and operating procedures are in place to support other team members in performing installation and configuration tasks in a consistent manner. Identifies tasks which require automation and automates them.
Implementation. Specify and test network and/or telephone equipment and develop standard hardware components to be used in various applications. Develop and test software configuration of small and large core equipment and services in alignment with common practices and established design principles. Develop and document procedures to be used for provisioning services and/or making routine system configuration changes. Develop and recommend the necessary documentation and operating procedures to support other engineering and operational team members in performing installation and configuration tasks in a consistent manner.
Service and Performance Management. Proactively manage service performance. Provide in-depth analysis of equipment performance and make recommendations for modifications to insure optimal network performance. Collect and analyze data to assist in measuring and forecasting changes in network utilization. Troubleshoot complex and atypical equipment issues and/or integration issues with various systems and services across the University.
Project Management. Develops and updates detailed plans and schedules. Provides guidance and insight for small to medium projects. Provides work direction for assigned projects, including scheduling, assignment of work and review of individual project efforts. Develop detailed project plans including Bills of Materials, budget estimates, scheduling, and configuration plans for design/redesign projects.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.
3+ years experience designing and implementing enterprise class networks.
Experience working with network switches, routers, firewall, WiFi systems and/or VoIP systems.
Experience working independently and working collaboratively on a team.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems.
3+ years experience working with network switches, routers, firewall, WiFi systems and/or VoIP systems.
2+ years of network management experience.
2+ years experience with IP address management
ITIL experience including service-oriented solution delivery and lifecycle management.
Experience working on projects with a focus on agile concepts.
Value orientated attitude with a superior ability to execute and sustain a high sense of urgency.
