Summary
You will support and plan the continued development of object-oriented software applications and systems used by the University of Michigan Lurie Nanofabrication Facility (LNF) community of users and staff members. Our integrated lab management system includes more than 20 complex custom applications related to equipment scheduling and authorization tracking, interlocks, ticketing system, monthly billing processes, inventory control, purchasing, and more. Your main responsibility will be to maintain and enhance our current system, which includes the planning, full-stack development and implementation of new and upgraded applications. Coordination and execution of other IT tasks such as backup, security check, hardware maintenance and network diagnosis etc, are also needed on a regular basis.
You will report to the LNF Managing Director, and will work with them and the other LNF staff to perform the tasks outlined below.
* Use C#, VB.NET and T-SQL to maintain and upgrade existing business software applications, most of which are web based.
* Work with our leadership group to plan, design and implement changes to our overall IT environment. This includes gathering community requirements, designing, and implementing new applications and new features.
* Coordinate and execute IT tasks such as server maintenance, backup and security. Maintain networks in our space for functions such as IP camera monitoring and kiosks network.
* Maintain and enhance existing embedded system software
* Other duties as needed, including occasional assistance on general IT-related problems.
The LNF is a nationally-recognized 24/7 cleanroom facility of > 13,000 sq. ft. that enables micro- and nano-fabrication research across UM as well as external academic and non-academic institutions. It has an annual budget of approximately $4M and the 18-FTE LNF staff team supports about 140 pieces of equipment and serves approximately 450 users annually.

Required Qualifications
* B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* 5+ years of demonstrated experience in VB.NET, C#.NET, SQL, Python, PHP, computer networking and embedded system programming.
* Software project management experience and ability to manage all stages of the software development life cycle including design, development, testing, and deployment. Experience with version control environments such as Git.
* Ability to function independently with minimal oversight and direction.
