Financial Analyst or Senior Financial Analyst-(220000RM)
The University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Dentistry (SOD) has an opportunity for a Financial Analyst or Senior Financial Analyst to work as part of the Financial Shared Services team. The mission of the Financial Shared Services team is to continue to strive for excellence by developing active partnerships with Academic Department Chairs and their support staff to provide oversight, guidance, and information in all financial activities. The Financial Analyst will work closely with the Financial Shared Services Manager and work to proactively build relationships within each of the departments, encouraging a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, accountability, diversity and civility.

Prepare, and distribute accurate, concise, well-organized, and timely financial reports, presentations, and financial information.
Work within tight deadlines to analyze and provide basic forecasts for areas such as salaries, fringe benefits, indirect cost recoveries, state funds, revolving funds, fund balances, and other areas as needed.
Review and analyze SOD assigned financial accounts and expenditures to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies in order to make accurate year-end revenue, expense, and surplus/deficit projections.
Maintain and manage an archive of budget and financial data files that can quickly be accessed and manipulated to generate the needed financial information.
Support schools and administrative units in identifying data or information about a particular issue, discuss anomalies or discrepancies that are observed, and assist with the preparation of various internal or external financial data requests.
Prepare responses and communication to various internal and external agencies.
Participate in the discussion, development, and implementation of new university financial processes and procedures.
Keep management informed of work progress and improvements.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience in financial analysis, management accounting, budgeting, auditing, data management, or data analysis with one (1) year of experience in financial analysis, management accounting, budgeting, or auditing. Four (4) years of experience preferred.
Prior experience with research or sponsored programs in an educational environment is preferred.
Other: Related experience may be substituted for education.
Senior Financial Analyst
Education: Bachelor's in finance, accounting, economics, business administration, or other business related field.
Experience: Five (5) years of finance, management accounting, budgeting, auditing, data management, or data analysis of which two (2) years of experience must be financial analysis.
Prior experience with research/sponsored programs in an educational environment is preferred.
Other: No substitution of experience for minimum education requirement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Solid foundation and working knowledge of basic accounting principles.
Experience with establishing and monitoring budget performance, financial reporting, variance analytics.
Excellent MS Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Willingness to encourage open dialogue across multiple levels within the SOD to support an environment of transparency and collaboration.
Ability to work independently as well as collectively to achieve team goals.
Effective and clear oral and written communication skills.
Adaptability to changing environments and culture, and willingness to remain flexible and open to changing requirements depending on SOD needs.
Ability to embrace self-directed change when necessary to support University core values.
Approximate Hiring Ranges:
Financial Analyst - $65,000 - $70,000
Senior Financial Analyst - $70,000 - $77,000
