The University of Minnesota seeks a Senior Tax Analyst to contribute to the mission of the Tax Management Office (TMO), a University-wide division overseeing the tax functions on all campuses. The Senior Tax Analyst assists in providing technical tax expertise to the varied University community in critical tax areas such as unrelated business income, tax-exempt debt, international transactions and activities, charitable contributions, employee compensation and fringe benefits, scholarships and fellowships, tax information reporting, sales and excise taxes, and other tax issues arising in higher education settings.
Ideal candidates will have an advanced degree in taxation, law or related field, such as JD or MBT and/or CPA certification. Ideal candidates will have tax experience working with tax-exempt organizations including higher education.
Salary Range: $90,000-$115,000, depending on qualifications

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Tax Advising - 60%
- Assist in researching tax issues, gathering facts, and analyzing the tax risk. Work with TMO staff to help identify recommendations.
- Assist TMO staff when working with departments on all campuses as they look to engage in new activities to ensure that they comply with federal and state tax rules and regulations.
- Assist TMO staff on tax projects pertaining to multistate and international tax compliance.
Tax Compliance - 25%
- Assist in ensuring that the University is compliant with tax requirements.
- Prepare, file, amend, or monitor various University federal and state tax returns and forms.
- Prepare, file, amend or monitor various related-entity federal and state tax returns and forms.
- Assist with post-issuance debt compliance for University-issued debt and State-issued debt.
- Assist with other tax compliance projects.
Training/Education - 15%
- Assist TMO in educating the University community regarding tax positions and tax requirements, including help with presentations to address tax issues specific to departments.
- Assist in the development of Tax Management Office Guidelines (TMOGs) that provide guidance from the TMO about tax topics that require technical explanations for a wider audience.

Required Qualifications (please document on the resume):
- BA/BS degree
- Minimum of six (6) years of related experience OR combination of advanced degree and experience of six (6) years
- Tax work experience
- Ability to conduct tax research
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational skills; ability to manage multiple responsibilities at one time
- Ability to take initiative/work independently, with good judgment about seeking direction
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups
Preferred Qualifications (please document on the resume):
- BA/BS degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline
- Advanced degree in taxation, law or related field, such as JD or MBT
- CPA certification
- Experience performing tax work in higher education. government or nonprofit setting
- Experience in multiple tax areas noted above in Position Overview.
