The faculty and staff of the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences are a multidisciplinary team from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. We are focused not only on understanding why health disparities occur, but on doing something about them at the community and societal level. Our department is part of the Indiana UniversityRichard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health at IUPUI, along with the departments of Epidemiology, Global Health, Health Policy & Management, and Biostatistics.
The Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health was formally created in 2012 and was named in recognition of a transformative gift by the Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation. With strong connections to the IU School of Medicine and other health science schools on the IUPUI campus, the School of Public Health is poised to be a catalyst to help build a collaborative approach to improved public health in Indiana. The school currently has more than 70 full-time faculty and staff serving more than 700 students.
Works as a liaison with a steering committee made up primarily of residents of 1 of 3 communities participating in the Diabetes Impact Project (DIP-IN). This entails working closely with the committee to advance the project goal of fostering an environment (physical and social) that supports greater health and well-being for all residents. The Project Management Specialist will not be solely or have primary responsibility for developing, designing or implementing a project.
Meets weekly with designated Fairbanks School of Public Health (FSPH) team members to plan weekly activities.
Meets individually with each member of the steering committee at least once every 3 months with initial meetings occurring by the end of the first 2 months of employment to develop relationships, to identify opportunities for partnership within the community, and to build knowledge of the community.
Sends meeting reminders and other community updates to the steering committee.
Touches base/updates steering committee members who miss meetings.
Involves steering committee members in activities as they desire.
Facilitates steering sommittee meetings, as appropriate.
Meets monthly with FSPH Team Members and appropriate steering committee members to develop agenda for steering committee meetings, and update on activities and brainstorm new partnerships.
Coordinates and partners with the neighborhood and Eskenazi-based community health workers (CHWs) to identify and attend neighborhood specific meetings such as neighborhood association meetings and other relevant meetings to represent DIP-IN and identify potential partners.
Meets with and develops a list of potential partners that are addressing healthy food access, physical activity infrastructure, stress (mental health and causes of stress), and social connectivity.
Manages steering committee projects that are already funded, this includes: checking-in at least monthly with funded partners, attending meetings between funded partners and the FSPH evaluation team, ensuring that quarterly reports and final reports are being completed, and required documentation submitted, ensuring that projects are invoiced at the specified times, updating the steering committee on project activities.
Manages new steering committee projects, this includes: working with steering committee members, neighborhood community health workers and independently to identify potential partnerships that fall under the topics of Healthy Food Access, Building Physical Activity Infrastructure, Reducing Life Stressors, and Social Connection emphasizing projects that address Policy, Systems, and Environmental changes that are sustainable and encouraging submission of proposals.
Assists in coordinating groups and assists in working group activities, if steering committee working groups are created.
Provides monthly updates at search committee meetings.
Assists with the preparation of presentations for semi-annual partner meetings, all steering committee meetings, and other public meetings such as a Community Forum (e.g. Annual Meeting) that include project updates and determine metrics for success.
Provides monthly reports to FSPH team (via REDCAP system).
Manages a small project, from start to finish, or one phase of a large project, ensuring on time completion within budget.
Develops project plan(s) and efficiently analyzes, tracks, forecasts, and reports on project metrics and shortfalls.
Reports on progress and provides regular updates to upper management.
Coordinates and communicates between various areas; conducts project meetings and prepares regular reports.
Collaborates with other departments to ensure that project objectives are achieved within established time frames.
May provide guidance and support to non-exempt staff.
Note: This position is grant funded with expected annual renewals. Renewals are contingent on the availability of grant funds.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. Some work activities will be conducted in-person at this location; however, a significant portion of time will be spent out in the community.
Salary will be commensurate with education and experience, within the range of $41,000 - $46,000 per year.
The selected applicant will be eligible for the IU standard fringe benefits package for exempt staff.
