Job Summary:
The Department of Information Technology Services is seeking applications for a Senior Network Engineer. Information Technology Services (ITS) provides the highest quality technology services to students, faculty, and staff and delivers technologies that advance the University's academic, research, and administrative goals. The Senior Network Engineer reports to the Assistant CIO for Networking/Telecom and Classrooms leading network team in day to day operations. Steers network team for connectivity: 115+ HSU Buildings, 18+ remote sites, 10+ medical facilities. Manage 221 communications rooms, 3000+ network devices (switches, routers, access points), and 26,000+ network drops. Provide and manage network services through specialized (Cisco) devices including: Traffic filtering devices, VoIP Gateway, wireless networking, Wireless LAN controllers, management and monitoring devices, etc. Lead the networking team for the installation and maintenance of the network. Oversee network request and needs including: I0S updates, device configuration, moves, adds, changes, repairs, upgrades, troubleshooting, etc. Maintain network related databases including DHCP, DNS, network subnets, device inventory, etc.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Essential:
- Leads the performance of day-to-day networking team tasks to ensure network reliability, availability and serviceability with minimal interruption.
- Develop and maintain technical deliverables including network assessments, capacity planning, detailed design documents, implementation/test plans configuration templates and scripts.
- Develops documented network services processes and procedures – identifies gaps in processes or documentation and develops improvements.
- Design, install, maintain, and troubleshoot the ETSU wired and wireless networks.
- Ensure that network infrastructure and service solutions are designed, deployed, and maintained following accepted current industry, vendor, and security best practices.
- Manages multiple Internet Service Providers (ISP) uplink connections with complex load balance and failover requirements that connect the ETSU campus to the Internet.
- Install, maintain and troubleshoot network/IP based connectivity and MetroE connections for multiple ETSU remote campus sites.
- Provide customer networks with stringent quality of service requirements for Voice over IP communications through the use of specialized equipment.
- Provide and maintain other required network services including DHCP services, DNS services, monitoring services, logging services, IP address management services, etc.
- Lead team members, support staff, and other departments and stakeholders on the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of the ETSU Ethernet and wireless network.
- Provide cross-functional network support to internal Information Technology Services staff.
- Provide Information Technology support to vendors.
