Northeast Missouri Electric Power Cooperative (Northeast Power) is a transmission cooperative delivering power to northeast Missouri and southeast Iowa. We are currently seeking a System Engineer – Civil at the Palmyra, Missouri, location.
What You Will Do:
This position will effectively plan and coordinate the design and specification preparation for new transmission and substation facilities as well as modify/upgrade existing transmission and substation facilities. In addition, this position will:
Provide engineering support for the installation and maintenance of 69 kV to 345 kV substation equipment as well as prepare equipment specifications and evaluate bids and proposals
Apply for and obtain environmental permits for transmission and substation facilities
Survey new or revised substation and transmission facilities
Assist in the development of long- and short-range planning associated with all system improvements
Assist in preparation of construction work plans and other planning related studies with emphasis on the application of new materials, equipment and system operation
What We Are Looking For:
We are looking for a motivated engineer with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently. In addition, we are looking for:
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering preferred; other related engineering fields will be considered
Licensed Professional Engineer preferred or ability to obtain with registration in Missouri and Iowa
Minimum three-year’s experience in electric utility industry preferred
Knowledge in 69 kV and 161 kV substation and transmission facilities
Knowledge of foundations, structural loading, environmental permitting and surveying. Working knowledge of NESC, ASCE, and other applicable design codes
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Experienced with personal computers with high proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; Experience with AutoCAD suite of products, including Civil3D, PLS-CADD and SAG-10, a plus
Strong attention to detail with the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced work environment

On February 2, 1948, Northeast Missouri Electric Power Cooperative (Northeast Power) was founded by three rural electric cooperatives in northeast Missouri. In 1949, construction began on the South River diesel 7 MW generation plant located on the bank of the Mississippi River. A coal fired steam generation facility of 15 MW capacity was completed in 1952. The diesel plant combined with the steam plant provided Northeast Power with its system's power until the late 1960's. Northeast Power's system is comprised of eight distribution cooperatives with five located in northeast Missouri and three in southeast Iowa. There have been four managers in the history of Northeast Power. Mr. Douglas H. Aeilts has been CEO and General Manager since May 2004.
Northeast Power is a generation and transmission (G&T) electric cooperative and no longer generates power. Northeast Power has an all-power requirements contract with Associated Electric Cooperative Inc. Northeast Power joined with five other G&T cooperatives operating in Missouri to form Associated Electric in 1961. Today, Northeast Power has approximately 908 miles of 69 kV transmission line and 74 miles of 161 kV line.
