THIS IS AN AT-WILL POSITION.
The Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners (PBC BCC) invites applications for Executive Director of the Tourist Development Council Department. PBC is a thriving community renowned for its recreation and business climate. This position will administer a thriving, comprehensive tourism program that promotes the growth of tourism within the County and markets PBC as a world class tourism, arts, sports and film location. Responsible for the oversight, execution, implementation, supervision, and documentation of Tourism Development planning and activities. Serves as the county Contract Administrator for Discover PBC/Convention and Visitors Bureau, PBC Cultural Council, PBC Sports Commission and PBC Film and TV Commission Office. Monitors and ensures compliance of these vendor agencies. Produces annual and long-term strategic plans, with TDC guidance, to enhance PBC’s reputation as a multifaceted destination. Ensures effective use of bed-tax funds. Establishes relationships with municipalities, local hotels, attractions, and travel industry/art/sport/film groups to maximize use of resources, staff, and opportunities for the purpose of economic growth. Will coordinate/facilitate long- and short-term studies, prepare and present reports to the BCC, and determine regulatory conformance of tourism-related programs. Responds to questions and concerns from the public, event organizers, business owners, media/press, developers, and other governmental agencies. Improves the economic impact of TDC activities and directs an administrative staff of five; projected FY23 budget is $85M+.
We are seeking a Director with demonstrated ability to lead the TDC in its mission of promoting tourism in PBC by empowering collaborative partnerships, advocating appropriate destination-defining developments, and ensuring the steady growth of visitors. Must be well versed in tourism program development/funding and relevant KPIs, and be prepared to identify and respond appropriately to current challenges Counties face in the tourism industry.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Tourism/Hospitality, Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, or related field; plus seven (7) years progressively responsible professional management and/or contract administration experience in advertising, marketing or tourism development-related areas. Must have experience interacting with elected and appointed officials. Some travel required. Related Master’s Degree may substitute for two (2) years of experience. Exposure to economic development or community development, public sector experience and experience attained in a top tier tourist destination preferred.
