Job Summary:The AV Systems Engineer works with the technical teams to maintain AV systems operation,
develop/design new AV systems and increase efficiency of current AV systems. The AV Systems Engineer is responsible with collaborating with vendors, consultants, and service partners to delivery reliable AV services.
Essential Functions:The AV Systems Engineer is tasked with ensuring that system documentation is up to date and training to operate systems is implemented. The AV Systems Engineer will enforce protocols and ensure procedures are followed, maintain asset inventory, and collaborate with engineering teams on operational requirements. The AV System Engineer will enforce operational efficacy and work to diminish service outages by leveraging effective ITSM processes (e.g. incident, service request, problem, change, and configuration management). The candidate will work closely with the IT teams in the evaluation, selection and implementation of AV Systems technology.
The AV Systems Engineer uses independent judgement and discretion on the current state of the AV systems. The candidate will adjust processes and procedures based on frequently encountered issues or complex problems. The AV Systems Engineer will continue to examine new technologies and explore their potential value to the University's strategic goals and mission.
CompetenciesThe Audiovisual Systems Engineer should have at least four years of experience with audiovisual installations, audiovisual engineering, or audiovisual programming. The AV Systems Engineer should also be a Certified Technology Specialist (CTS). Upon hiring, the AV Systems Engineer will begin to work towards acquiring the Certified Technology Specialist - Designer (CTS-D).
The Audiovisual Systems Engineer should have experience working with audiovisual technology such as: projectors, touch panels, digital signal processors, audiovisual switchers, wireless/wired microphones, video CODECs and other associated audiovisual equipment. In addition:
- Demonstrated experience working in collaboration with a team as an effective team member.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse clientele.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail is critical.
- Exercise good judgment, logic and troubleshooting skills to anticipate and solve problems independently.
- Proven experience in handling multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Experience developing, training, and supporting faculty and administrative staff in the use of instructional technology.
Physical DemandsThe employee may occasionally need to move AV equipment to classroom locations (20 lbs or less).
Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis position is a full-time position, Monday through Friday. Work hours are flexible, but generally 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. This position will require the candidate to come to the St, John's Queens campus on a periodic basis. Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends, when necessary.
Required Education and Experience: - Audiovisual Systems Engineer should have 5-7 experience.
- Completed a bachelor's degree program or higher in computer science, technology, or equivalent field.
- Non-bachelor's degrees are accepted with equivalent years of experience and relevant professional certifications.
Additional Eligibility QualificationsCertified Technology Specialist (CTS) or Certified Technology Specialist - Designer (CTS-D).
