The County of Orange, John Wayne Airport, has a challenging opportunity for a visionary, entrepreneurial, results-oriented senior level professional to join our executive team. The Deputy Airport Director of Business Development will exercise managerial responsibility in the oversight of the commercial program at JWA including concession analysis, planning, and leasing to enhance commercial revenue for the airport. This program includes all airlines, food service, retail, rental cars, parking, ground transportation, general aviation leasing and commercial advertising at JWA. In addition to traditional airport concessions, innovative sources of revenue should be considered.
The ideal candidate will have at least five (5) years of training, knowledge, or experience in revenue generation, monetizing assets and commercial property management.
Additionally, the ideal candidate will demonstrate experience in the following:
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a variety of audiences.
Hands on problem solving skills, creativity, innovation, and proven negotiation skills.
Operational knowledge of the Airport Concession Disadvantages Business Enterprise Program.
Experience and ability advising and applying expert knowledge of public administration, real estate management, asset development, concession planning and business/enterprise development, procurement, and risk management
Experience in team building
Involvement in providing an exceptional guest experience.
One year of experience as an Administrative Manager II with the County of Orange OR Five years of experience directly related to the competencies and attributes noted below. A bachelor’s degree in a related area of study may substitute for two years of the required experience.
Although not required, a professional education/certification such as Senior Right of Way Agent (SR/WA) or American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) designation is highly desired.

John Wayne Airport (JWA), owned and operated by the County of Orange California, is a medium-hub, commercial service airport. JWA is managed by an Airport Director and Assistant Director overseeing six (6) Divisions, including Business Development, Facilities Development, Finance Administration, Operations, Public Affairs, and Maintenance. JWA has an annual budget of approximately $200M and a staff of approximately 180. JWA is one of the top 50 busiest commercial airports in the country in terms of both passenger enplanements and total operations and the 9th busiest General Aviation airport.
John Wayne Airport operates as an enterprise fund self-supported through revenues it generates and receives no monies from the County General Fund. These revenues are utilized to operate the Airport, provide for the repayment of revenue bonds, fund facility capital improvements, and maintenance projects, and support aviation planning.
