Job Description: What We Are Looking For
Baylor University is seeking a Director of Development to cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of donors and prospects for major gifts to Baylor in the Houston, Texas, region. Prior University experience in fundraising or a similar field is desirable, but applicants with experience in sales or marketing/public relations are also encouraged to apply. As a leading R1 Christian research university, a strong Christian commitment is required. The availability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed are required. Professional appearance and demeanor is necessary.
Our preferred candidate will live in the Houston, Texas, region or will be willing to relocate to the Houston region. Relocation assistance is available for the person selected if they do not live in the Houston area.
This position will be filled at the Assistant Director, Associate Director, or Director level and Baylor reserves to make the final determination based upon the skills and experience of the candidate selected for an offer. A Bachelor's degree, less than one year of relevant experience, and an active Christian faith are required. A Master's degree and more than three years relevant experience are preferred.
Experience will not be accepted in lieu of the educational requirement. All applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on full-time basis.
What You Will Do
Cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of donors and prospects for major gifts to Baylor, for university-wide special initiatives and projects respective of assigned region - Houston, TX.
Collaborate with development officers, alumni/parent officers, volunteers and other Houston-focused partners within Baylor in order to inspire trust, promote connectivity and develop a holistic Baylor presence within the Houston market; in order to significantly increase private gifts to Baylor.
Collaborate with deans, directors, or other senior administrators in developing impactful philanthropic agendas-consistent with Baylor's strategic plans-for prospective major gift donors.
Participate fully in University Development's prospect management, discovery/qualification visits, and related prospect development programs.
With the leadership of Asst. VP for Development, establish yearly measurable goals/objective, related metrics for prospect meetings held, substantive contacts, new gift commitments secured, and dollars raised.
Experience in sales or marketing/public relations.
Excellent interpersonal skills required.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong computer skills are necessary.
Strong Christian commitment.
Ability to respect confidential information.
Have an understanding of the mission and character of the university.
Extensive travel required; must have current drivers license and good driving record.
