Fully-covered housing costs; Paid travel to and from the host location in cities across the country; Mentoring throughout the program by members of the WSIA Internship Committee; a $600 cash advance to cover incidental internship program related expenses; Complimentary access to the WSIA Surplus Lines Fundamentals course; a three-day orientation in Kansas City covering a variety of topics to familiarize them with the industry; $5,000 academic scholarship for successfully completing the internship ($2,500 awarded for fall 2023 semester and $2,500 for spring 2024.)
Interns also compete for the chance to attend the WSIA Annual Marketplace and for additional scholarships to study the London market.

The WSIA Internship Program awards paid summer internships to college students interested in an insurance career. This nine-week opportunity offers students experience in both the underwriting and brokerage sides of the surplus lines marketplace by working with actual risks and learning alongside leaders in the property and casualty industry. Interns spend time in two different locations focused on the underwriting and brokerage experience and may also have some exposure to other roles and departments including claims, data analytics, accounting, operations, human resources, and marketing. After successfully completing the internship, students are awarded a $5,000 scholarship for the 2023-2024 academic year.
In order to be eligible for the program, students must meet the following requirements:
Be a college junior or senior at the time of the summer internship
Satisfy one of the following requirements:
be a Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) major/minor/concentration student; or
have taken RMI courses; or
have work experience in the RMI industry.
Must be able to provide proof of authorization to work in the United States
Must be willing to successfully complete a background check
