Georgetown University's Institute for Women, Peace & Security seeks to promote a more stable, peaceful, and just world by focusing on the important role women play in preventing conflict and building peace, growing economies, and addressing global threats like climate change and violent extremism. Housed within the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown, the Institute is headed by the former U.S. Ambassador for Global Women's Issues, Melanne Verveer.
Job Overview
The Project Manager supports the work of Distinguished Fellow, Ambassador Roya Rahmani, and her research project entitled 'Advancing Women's Rights in Afghanistan: Lessons Learned from the past 20 years and the Way Forward.' This research will produce one comprehensive report and two policy briefs to be disseminated to government officials, donors, and all stakeholders. This research is particularly timely as Congress is currently deliberating the Afghan Adjustment Act.
The Project Manager assists in designing and implementing the research agenda, facilitates multilevel collaboration, internally and externally, and serves as the point of contact for the student research assistants. They oversee operations, collating and preparing the draft research for the Ambassador's review; and works closely with the Ambassador to finalize policy briefs and other deliverables and assists in coordinating the discussion and presentation of the research findings.
Work Interactions
Reporting to Ambassador Rahmani, the Project Manager works closely with both the programmatic department on the GIWPS Afghanistan initiatives, as well as with our research department to ensure the deliverables are held to the high GIWPS research standard.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field
2 to 3 years of experience managing or engaging in their own research project
Proven ability to organize a research project
Ability to compile data, concepts, input from discussions and ideas into substantive written material and analyze it
Experience working under pressure and being able to manage multiple competing deadlines
Excellent writing skills
