About the School of Information Technology
The School of Information Technology is a national leader in studying solutions and needs that connect people, information, and the technology of the time. The SoIT is home to Ohio's first Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Information Technology. It is home to Ohio's first ABET accredited Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity. The SoIT has been growing at 19% annually and currently serves more than 1,740 students with 29 full-time faculty members, 20 full-time staff, and 30 part-time faculty. About the Ohio Cyber Range Institute
The Ohio Cyber Range Institute (OCRI), housed at the University of Cincinnati on behalf of the state of Ohio, provides administration of the Ohio Cyber Range (OCR) in advancement of the OCRI's mission as a cybersecurity education, workforce, and economic development platform. The OCR is a state-wide tool that supports programming for K-20 courses and events; full-spectrum training opportunities, including incident response teams; industry workforce and economic development; cyber security research; as well as government agency support among other programs.
About the Job
The School of Information Technology at the University of Cincinnati seeks to hire a Computer Systems Administrator II for the Ohio Cyber Range Institute. We are looking for mission driven, team oriented, highly ambitious individual who wants to serve, make a difference and strive to perform at competitive levels of excellence.
The principal workload assignment of this position will be to support the Ohio Cyber Range Institute (OCRI). The position is housed in the School of Information Technology (SoIT) and integrates with its mission and planning. The position works within the OCRI governing structure and reports to the OCRI Associate Director for Infrastructure and Cyber Exercises.
Job Overview
Under general supervision from the OCRI Associate Director for Infrastructure and Cyber Exercises, the OCRI Computer Systems Administrator II will serve as a technical and integration expert for the OCR working with the Core Service Sites' (CSS) virtual range and with educators to implement cybersecurity labs and exercises. In addition, the position will work with the Service Desk to support customers in the OCRI community. The essential functions will include planning, managing, and facilitating software and hardware implementations, OCRI technical initiatives, developing VMWare blueprints, developing VMware vRealize Automation (vRA) activities, projects, and programs. The position will be responsible for the management of one or more hardware and software systems, ensuring continuous, optimal performance of IT services and support systems. This includes, but is not limited to, monitoring and allocating system resources like disk space, performing backups, providing user access, managing user accounts, and monitoring system security and health.
Essential Functions
Ensure operating systems software is properly installed, tested, and tuned to maximize operating efficiency; ensure the availability, integrity, and reliability of assigned systems.
Assist in developing and implementing plans for fully integrated systems, including operating systems, network systems, database systems and applications.
Assist in developing plans, schedules, and requirements for the installation and maintenance of new and /or revised software.
Install, configure, and tune operating systems software for optimal performance.
Assist in system integration with other systems.
Evaluate and recommend hardware and system software procurement.
Assess the impact of new software on existing systems and users and develop modification plans as needed.
Plan and implement upgrades and modifications to systems configuration to improve utilization based on analysis of application and production requirements.
Plan system capacity and develop expansion plans. Allocate and organize data storage.
May write and develop efficient software and code for operating systems.
Serve as a seasoned and proficient professional.
Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.
Required Education
Bachelor's Degree in Comptuer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related field
Six (6) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement
Required Experience
Two (2) years of related experience.
Additional Qualifications Considered
Information technology or related degree with focus on IT infrastructure at the bachelor or master's levels.
At least one year experience providing direct customer support.
Experience managing a VMware vRealize and NSX environment.
Experience articulating technical concepts and developing clear, concise presentations for a variety of audiences, including leadership.
Self-motivated.
