Position Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Network Architect, the position provides network and voice system design and installation, problem determination, resolution, configuration, and needs analysis to support the use of technology by faculty, staff, and students. The position is responsible for design assistance and implementing Fordham's network infrastructure, resolving advanced support issues, and supporting other IT staff. The architect provides support for all aspects of the various university data centers and communications closets. The architect works with other staff including application development and IT security. She/He will also be responsible for administrative tasks, projects and supporting other IT related functions.
Essential Functions:
Network infrastructure:
Collaborates with senior network architect to design and implement functional networks.
Installs and configures network hardware, including firewalls.
Configures network switches, VPN, optical hardware, and SDN systems.
Researches new technologies in support of data, VoIP, conferencing systems, and WiFi.
Deploys wireless network infrastructures and makes recommendations on systems enhancements for optimal operation.
Recommends IT solutions to business and management problems.
Supports the universities building management systems and life safety systems.
Works with Facilities Engineering group on implementing technologies into new or renovated structures.
Network maintenance:
Monitors and analyzes data to improve system performance.
Monitors network usage and security issues.
Deploys patches to mitigate any threat to systems.
Responds to issues affecting the network architecture.
Supports ticket resolution associated to the network architecture.
Supports work and tickets associated to the operation of the firewall.
General responsibilities:

Analysis, Decision making:
Makes use of SUMO logic to analyze captured data from disparate network systems.
Supports security team with data from firewall and network equipment.
Uses measuring and diagnostic tools to test and adjust networking equipment.
Supports capacity planning.
Delegates network maintenance tasks to junior staff and others.
Utilizes data to modify and support modifications to the wireless network.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field
5+ years relevant experience
