Detailed Job Description The classroom technology team in the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) manages the design and integration of new A/V systems into RIT learning spaces while also supporting the day-to-day operations of over a hundred classrooms and eight auditoriums across campus. The team also coordinates with central IT and provides guidance to the RIT community on AV best practices and AV system procurement.
The person in this role is responsible for assisting in the maintenance of existing University classrooms across campus; providing advanced troubleshooting for system malfunctions; managing a team of student technicians; and, supervising the installation of audiovisual (A/V) and instructional technology systems in classrooms, auditoriums and other related facilities in all campus buildings. This person also consults with RIT clients and manages vendor relationships to ensure excellence and efficiency in long-term use and maintenance of campus learning spaces. To facilitate this they must keep current on emerging AV technologies, provide support for CTL teaching initiatives, and provide guidance how options to maximize replacement budgets to ensure institute priorities are met.
Responsibilities also include:
Evaluation of emerging A/V technologies, alignment of technologies with RIT priorities, ensuring system security, fulfilling customer requests, developing standards.
Resolving Tier 3 & 4 support issues (advance issues that are beyond the ability of student staff) in collaboration with the classroom operations team.
Supervise, hire, train, and regularly assess the performance of classroom technology student technicians.
Participate in and/or manage learning space projects through the project management lifecycle from project proposal to project close to provide learning environments that meet the learner, instructor, and university needs.
Provide advanced technical support for supported technologies, in person, over the phone. Advanced troubleshooting of malfunctions and supervision of system repairs.
Assist the Manager Classroom Technology and AV Systems, and other professional staff, in coordinating the continuous operations improvements of classroom technologies, including working with vendors to resolve technical issues, improve functionality, and implement upgrades. Provide needs assessment of equipment and facilities technology in campus teaching spaces.
Provide management and/or support for installations and upgrades to audio visual systems in supported learning spaces across campus to insure that requirements and standards are met
Identify, evaluate, propose, and create standards for academic technology hardware and software that will enhance and improve learning spaces and allow for efficient long-term maintenance.
Assist in auditing the quality of learning spaces, condition of installed audiovisual technologies, and vendor performance.
Maintain expertise on emerging academic technologies and their appropriate applications for learning spaces at RIT. Where appropriate, recommend technologies for pilot evaluation in consultation with CTL staff. Conduct benchmark research to identify classroom technology support issues and trends
Monitor the health and performance of enterprise A/V equipment to include, but not limited to: error reporting, proactive maintenance warnings, and network security patch management.

Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in Information Technology, Electrical Engineer, or similar technology field
CTS Certified or willing to acquire within 1 year
5+ years experience in audio/visual technologies
5+ years experience providing direct service to others
3+ years experience leading or providing technical support
3+ years experience planning and coordinating materials and projects
Outstanding customer service skills
Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks concurrently
Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment
Familiarity with project tracking tools
A willingness/eagerness to coach/mentor staff
A willingness/eagerness to learn
Effective listening, comprehension, and communication skills: verbal, written, and electronic formats
Professionalism, diplomacy and enthusiasm
Advanced technical knowledge of audio and video devices (projectors, amps, speakers, scalers, standards, protocols, wiring, etcetc.)
Audio and video equipment interfaces and monitoring systems including DSP programming and tuning
Understanding of IT networking, including switching, routing, VLANs and network/device security
Video conferencing system and software
Basic IP networking
Crestron and Extron control systems and integration
Data/Video display systems
