Job DescriptionThe Data Analystserves as a gatekeeper for our organization's data so stakeholders canunderstand the data and use it to make business decisions. This role requiresnot only knowledge of the business processes and relevant data but alsorequires technical skills and experience. This role supports Student Servicesand serves in a strategic role focused on using data and information to supportthe goals of the university.
This experienced and self-motivated Data Analyst willwork autonomously to deliver high quality data products which includes: ondemand and automated reports, analytics, data modeling diagrams/expertise, dataresearch and troubleshooting. This role will turn data into information, informationinto insight and insight into business decisions. This role will use acombination of technical and leadership skills to support the business. Thetechnical skills include knowledge of database languages such as SQL, R, and/orPython; spreadsheet tools such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets; and datavisualization software such as Tableau and reporting tools such as Cognos.
* Manage data analysts, scope of work, solutions, quality
* Interpret data, analyze results and provide accurate reports to end customers
* Create and maintain standard data sources and reports
* Develop and implement databases, data collection systems and other strategies that optimize efficiency and ensure high quality output
* Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases
* Train, communicate and support data related activities (reporting tools, data usage and accuracy, troubleshooting issues)
* Work closely with Academic Services to understand data needs and then create reports with the university data from various sources to help focus the team on easy to improve service and outcomes.
* Collaborate with Business systems analysts and programmers on the Student Services Information systems team to understand complex data structures and identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend system modifications
* Create appropriate documentation that allows stakeholders to understand the steps of the data analysis process and duplicate or replicate the analysis if necessary
* Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
* Filter and "clean" data by reviewing reports
* Work with management to prioritize business and information needs
* Locate and define new process improvement opportunities
* Tester Trainor technical systems: Participate in defining and testing of academic requirements for the new Eagle Apps student information system along with other newly launched technologies.
Title and salary commensurate with relevant experience based on the following titles and hiring ranges:
2-3 years of professional experience (non-senior): $59,560 - $74,450
5+ years of professional experience (senior): $72,600 - $90,750
RequirementsBachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science or Information Management required; Master's preferred.
* Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques
* Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (Cognos, Business Objects etc.), databases (SQL etc.), programming (XML, Javascript, or ETL frameworks)
* Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, Google Sheet, etc.)
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
* Adept at queries, report writing and presenting finding
* Functional understanding of student information and degree audit systems.
* Additional computer skills required include Microsoft Word, Excel, Filemaker Pro, Etrieve, Uachieve, EAB navigate, Google Suite
* Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
* Ability to maintain complete accuracy and integrity of student academic records within a confidential, secure environment
* Understanding of student academic records policies and practices, regulations, is essential
* Expert knowledge of the university's academic policies and practices
* Functional understanding of FERPA regulations
* Exceptional interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills
* Ability to multi-task, manage frequent interruptions, and work effectively in a team-based environment
