Job Description Summary:
Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Access & Collection Services, the Serials & Electronic Resources Manager oversees the Serials & E-Resources division including but not limited to purchase, receipt, and processing of library materials. As a librarian Holiday, evening and/or weekend duties required.
Responsibilities:
45% Oversees acquisitions of materials and provides leadership in the assessment, title selection processes, and licensing of digital and print resources by formulating, articulating, and managing the direction, balance, and focus of the libraryâ™s collections to support learning, teaching, and research.
Coordinates aspects of acquisitions and collections development including standing orders, departmental allocations, and the approval plan programs.
Coordinates the documentation, purchasing, licensing, and access of electronic resources and print materials including: quotes, new orders, annual academic department subscriptions review, renewals, cancellations, and troubleshooting.
Communicates with vendors regarding the library's print and electronic subscriptions.
Manages life cycle processes for current subscriptions, including ordering, renewing, and claiming of subscriptions, replacing missing issues, and discontinuations as appropriate.
Assists with the library's print and electronic resources budget.
Reviews use of resources, analyzes potential cancellations, and identifies availability of electronic formats to maximize use of allocated funds and space.
Collects usage and other statistics for required reports and other documents as requested.Â
Evaluates collection and works with librarians and faculty to improve support of academic curricula and programs.Â
Maintains knowledge of current and emerging trends in acquisitions and electronic resources/tools for assessing services and recommends policy and procedure changes as it deals with the library and its functions.Â
40% Oversees all operations of the Serials & E-Resources Department, including serials collections (both print and electronic), periodicals stacks/microform/offsite circulation and maintenance, services, and supervision of staff:Â
Documents and evaluates workflow to ensure a smooth progression of materials to maximize public access to monographs, serials, and electronic resources.Â
Maintains catalog records, an e-resources A-Z list, an OpenURL link resolver (Full Text Finder or similar product), CORAL online electronic resource management system (ERM), and other utilities and discovery tools to ensure appropriate user access.Â
Coordinates activities with the Library Technology Services and the Cataloging & Metadata departments to improve library catalog/database and maximize user access to materials.Â
Organizes the remote storage of periodicals including integrating gifts and older periodicals as needed.Â
Oversees bindery process.Â
Manages collection and evaluation of materials to be included in the Portal to Texas History.Â
Hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates the work of all library staff assigned to the department.Â
15% Professional Librarian: Serve the community using expertise in reference, instruction, liaison, and professional duties.Â
ReferenceÂ
Provide reference services through various communication methods to oncampus and off-campus students and faculty and keep accurate counts.Â
Develops and delivers necessary training for traditional and new reference services.Â
Staff Reference services as assigned.Â
Provide point-of-use instruction and assistance to individuals or groups as needed.Â
Instruction
Actively solicit, create and teach library instruction to support the universityâ™s curriculum and students in both traditional and online formats.Â
Provide both general and subject-specific bibliographic instruction to classes as requested by faculty members which teach information literacy skills via embedded sessions, bibliographic sessions, video creation and instruction as necessary for student and faculty development.Â
Prepare instructional materials for classes and other groups as needed including but not limited to videos, LibGuides, pathfinders, and programming.Â
Subject Liaison
Serves as liaison to one or more academic departments, working with faculty to
meet their information needs and the needs of their students.Â
Work with assigned departments and co-workers to enhance the libraryâ™s collections and act as a point of contact for services.
ProfessionalÂ
Recommends policy and procedure changes as it deals with the library, instruction, reference, liaising, and services.Â
Actively develop and implement ideas for the promotion of the library to the university community including but not limited to programs, activities, and services.Â
Work within teams and departments to recommend and assess new programs, policies, procedures, and services.Â
Assists in covering library service points as needed.Â
Attend professional meetings and remain abreast of relevant current developments in the fieldÂ
Positively represents Tarleton State University in professional, community, and state organizations.
Maintains professional demeanor and appearance in representing the Library and the University.
Serve on university committees.
Attend meetings of faculty/staff.
Maintains âœopen doorâ to internal and external customers. Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
ALA-accredited masterâ™s degree in library or information science or international equivalent required
Four years of related experience in college or university library; including two years of experience working as a librarian
Preferred:
1-2 years of experience supervising experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.Â
Knowledge of automated library systems.Â
Knowledge of basic metadata schemas, digital collection management software, security, and public safety issues.Â
Excellent interpersonal, customer service, presentation, and research skills.Â
Strong verbal and written communication skills.Â
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.Â
Ability to use basic print and electronic reference tools.Â
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The target base annual salary is $45,619.50 and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
