Position Summary:
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is responsible for supporting the IT needs of UC Irvine faculty, students, and staff. Our mission is to provide information technology leadership, services, and innovative solutions to promote the research, education, and community service goals of the University. This position is within OIT's Enterprise Student Management Systems (ESMS) Division which provides support for the systems and applications used by six large, complex, and mission critical business units: Financial Aid and Scholarships, Financial Services, Graduate Division, Office of the Registrar, Summer Session, and Undergraduate Admissions. The division provides services for operational support and monitoring, incident management and troubleshooting, and software enhancements, maintenance, and upgrades, to a diverse group of complex in-house developed applications. The division also supports a wide range of integrations for the in-house developed applications and third-party software products. This position is within the ESMS BSA Team and directly supports operational and transformational information and technology projects for the six business units.
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director, Enterprise Student Management Systems, the Senior Business Systems Analyst applies skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry-wide business process and analysis practices and organizational policies and procedures. Resolves a wide range of business process issues of moderate to complex scope. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions. Analyzes and documents complex business functions and requirements for the supported business units. Serves as the liaison between business and information technology teams. Conducts business and information systems analysis for a variety of UCI projects, ranging from business process improvements to system implementations for both vendor and home-grown applications. Deconstructs complex processes and systems for team members in varying roles to understand, guiding them through designed solutions that help ESMS supported business units and the campus. As a member of the ESMS Business Systems Analysis Team, collaborates with peers to mature and standardize team services. Follows team standards and best practices and procedures. Advises and guides business and technical teams on solutions to complex problems for disparate heterogeneous systems spanning ESMS business areas. Applies experience and expertise to creatively design effective and efficient solutions.

Three (3) plus years of business systems analysis experience for medium-sized projects with medium-level complexity, including all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC): planning, requirements, analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Follow industry and organizational standards and processes for eliciting and documenting complex business processes and requirements and translates them into various artifacts including business process diagrams, business requirements, functional requirements, use cases, process documents, and workflow documents. Understanding of and skills in producing Training Materials or User Manuals. Strong skills and knowledge of methodologies associated with analysis of processes and problems, information flow and architecture. Thorough knowledge of business and process analysis functions. Thorough Knowledge of related areas of IT, including enterprise applications software development lifecycle for implementations, new development, and enhancements. These include, but are not limited to Web Applications, Client Applications, data modeling, database designs, and SQL scripting for data extraction and data analysis needs. Experience working within a formal software development lifecycle (SDLC). Broad knowledge relating to software design. Demonstrated testing and test planning skills, including the ability to coordinate with a quality assurance (QA) team and/or testers. Experience with supporting various testing activities such as performance, regression, compatibility, security, and usability testing; contributing to a subset of selected functional testing to ensure quality of product prior to User Acceptance Testing; coordinating User Acceptance Testing; providing status updates as needed and/or configuring dashboards to report testing status. Demonstrated ability to manage partnerships between stakeholders of varying roles, including business stakeholders, project managers, developers, and quality assurance team (QA). Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Demonstrates problem solving skills. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Interpersonal and communications skills to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Fosters good relationships with stakeholders. Listens and understands client needs and assists with explaining technology needs. Understanding of and skills in providing BSA support for cutover and implementation plans.
