Job Summary General Summary Provides user support and training for Pharmacy computer system applications. Provides instruction and/or documentation, coordinates and documents testing, and reports and follows‑up on software malfunctions for installation, upgrade, and maintenance of system applications. Assists in development of methods, procedures and controls to improve and maintain data integrity. Prepares and distributes various periodic and adhoc management reports.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Creates and maintains user accounts for Pharmacy computer applications, following all pertinent hospital and department policies and guidelines.
Responds to user inquiries regarding system processes, procedures and problems and acts as liaison between user departments and Pharmacy. Documents, reports and monitors resolution of system errors. Prepares user documentation for new/changed procedures.
Provides user training for pharmacy and non-pharmacy staff members and/or written procedural documentation for all pharmacy informatics applications, installations, and upgrades. Visits offsite facilities for training when necessary.
Assists in the designing, development, testing and implementing of clinical applications supporting pharmacy operations. This would include testing of interfaces, billing, and automation for new systems, upgrades, and product enhancements.
Troubleshoots hardware/software malfunctions or deficiencies to Manager. Monitors resolution of problems by software vendor. Reports unresolved issues to Manager. Develops and implements interim procedures when problems cannot be resolved promptly. Identifies and recommends system enhancements as appropriate.
Updates computerized hospital rate directory for changes/additions in services and to comply with user, hospital and/or payor requirements, in accordance with Budget Department procedures. Documents and communicates changes to affected
Assists in development and maintenance of controls to facilitate accurate reporting of patient charges. Monitors charge activity of new departments on automated billing system. Uses standard patient accounting reports to research and resolve discrepancies in revenue reporting between Data Input and hospital departments.
Prepare and distributes a variety of periodic and adhoc statistical reports for management analysis.
Minimum Knowledge and Skills
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field and two to three years' experience. In addition, six months Pharmacy Technician experience to assist with accountabilities in this area is preferred.
Work requires ability to troubleshoot diverse computerized and automated hardware including label and report printers, automated medication dispensing devices, automated medication packaging equipment, enterprise workstations, and dedicated vendor-provided computer systems (e.g., Pyxis, Baxa, and Talyst).
Work requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and provide empathy in difficult interpersonal situations, with information technology personnel, clinical personnel, and administrative personnel at all levels of the organization.
Work requires the analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
