The Kansas Health Institute (KHI) is seeking a highly qualified Senior Analyst to join our team and help fulfill our mission of improving the health of Kansans through nonpartisan research, education, and engagement that support effective policymaking. The COVID-19 pandemic has emphasized the critical role and the fragile situation of public health infrastructure in the United States. The Senior Analyst will advance public health research and policy development by providing technical assistance, education and expertise on system-level issues, with a focus on equity and social determinants of health.

The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree in public health or a related field and 10 years of experience, including at least five years in state or local public health. The candidate will also have knowledge of the core functions, essential services, principles, and practices involved in contemporary public health, as well as public health data and policy. Candidates with experience in strategic planning, facilitation, performance improvement, change management, and community health assessment and improvement planning will be well-suited for this position. The ability to work productively with stakeholders who hold a wide range of perspectives on public health will be critical.

The Senior Analyst will manage existing projects and shape new ones. The ideal candidate will be familiar with a variety of research methods and tools, both quantitative and qualitative. Experience with grant-funded and contract research, a background in authentic community engagement, and the ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary, team-oriented setting are desired.

In addition to the above qualifications, a candidate with previous experience working with diverse populations or organizations and addressing their various needs is a plus. The successful candidate will have knowledge of community health assessment and community health improvement planning processes and methodologies, and experience providing technical assistance to local and regional government partners and organizations.

Established in 1995 with a multiyear grant from the Kansas Health Foundation, KHI is a nonprofit, nonpartisan educational organization based in Topeka. The Kansas Health Foundation made its commitment to fund KHI's educational mission to deliver in-depth, nonpartisan information, research and insights based on the conclusion that health policy decisions often were based on fragmented, anecdotal and sometimes biased information. At the time of its founding, KHI was unique in its status as a health policy-focused educational organization that was independent, non-university based, and supported primarily through philanthropy. Since then, other states such as Colorado and Ohio have established institutes with a similar model. KHI faculty and staff are drawn from diverse disciplines including medicine, public and community health, health policy and management, law, anthropology, political science, sociology, health administration, ...communications, journalism, and business.
