Job Description:
The position will provide support for the college will include implementation and support for the College of Veterinary Medicineâs faculty, staff, and students; Approximately 1,000 users and 1,500 workstations. This includes installing, supporting, and troubleshooting desktops and laptops; Infrastructure devices; Computer hardware and software; Setting up and configuring new computing equipment and software; Hardware repairs, and software upgrades; Researching, evaluating, and recommending technology purchases; Developing and/or assisting with or participating in technology training opportunities and resources for faculty, staff, and students; Supervising hourly student workers; Consulting with faculty, staff, and students regarding their computer needs; and participation in campus wide IT initiatives.
In addition to the above duties, the position will support infrastructure for the college including VMware virtual servers and VDI systems, the monitoring and maintaining of approximately 80 college servers including infrastructure devices and enterprise software. Duties will focus on management of a student laptop mobile computing program; Computer interface with a commercial vendor program for specialty equipment in research and hospital settings; and knowledge of classroom technology which all support the college learning environment. This position would also assist in campus wide technology efforts for around the implementation, maintenance and securing of technologies and university data. This position is an important component of the college IT unit and will be responsible for participating in the creation of best practices and implementing university and college IT policies and adapting new and innovating technology applications in support of the collective university and Veterinary Medicine IT goals and objectives. The successful candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; Be highly organized with great attention to detail; And possess the ability to continually learn and maintain a variety of complex technologies.
Example of Duties
Monitors and resolves issues with operating systems and servers.
Evaluates system specifications and tests for compatibility.
Audits and administers access controls.
Develops scripts to automatic repetitive tasks.
Troubleshoots complex problems involving multiple systems and working with vendor support to implement fixes.
Assists in managing and maintaining systems such as JAMF Pro and Microsoft MECM used in automation of build and upgrade processes
Modifies, maintains, and updates existing software.
Conducts tests of revised or newly developed systems software to collect operating data and identify operating characteristics.
Provide backup support for in-class technical issues.
Assist with capture systems
Plan and participate in technology related orientation for new students.
Communicate IT changes, developments, and other important information to senior leadership.
Create written and video technology instructions and resources for users.
Serve on technology related committees for the college and university.
Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring college and university IT policies.
Participate in training for computers and programs supported by the college.
Work with technology vendors to troubleshoot and acquire new technologies.
Research and evaluate technology innovations and recommend solutions to enhance the education/learning experience.
IT support for educational computer programs including evaluation and scheduling programs.
Consult with users on software and hardware needs and make recommendations.
Support college technology infrastructure/hardware including desktop and laptop computers, backup drives, printers, fax machines, copiers, computer accessories, hospital equipment, and all other information technology hardware.
Provide support for users in the college with software: operating system, Office products, email and communication software, enterprises hospital software, lab and research software, and other supported software.
Setup and configure new computing equipment and software.
Implement, maintain, update, and manage enterprise-wide imaging retrieval system for deploying software to the college computers.
Perform hardware repairs on student computers.
Supervise student support employees in performing desktop and technology support tasks.
Create and maintain instruction technical documents on process and change
Management for desktop support.
Participate in university initiatives to develop standards and best practices around endpoint management.
