The mission of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Indiana University School of Medicine is to advance the health care of women in the State of Indiana and further impact the quality of women's health care both nationally and abroad. The department has a long history of outstanding education, clinical care, quality improvement, and basic, clinical and translational research. The IU School of Medicine OB-GYN teaching faculty and appointed clinical faculty at all 9 campuses throughout Indiana are eager to teach and have medical students as part of their teams.
Looking for a highly-motivated Research Analyst to perform state-of-the-art translational research on women's health in the laboratory of Dr. Brenda Smith's laboratory in the Indiana Center for Musculoskeletal Health at the Indiana University School of Medicine. The goal of the Smith Lab is to investigate the role of nutrition on immune and skeletal health in the context of aging by conducting studies using cell culture systems, animal models and human subjects.
Job Summary
Dr. Smith's laboratory is focused on studying how nutrition-induced changes in the immune system affect women's health. This position performs intricate laboratory experiments and analyses.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Prepares reports, oversees compliance, and provides guidance and support to junior-level staff and trainees.
Coordinates laboratory activities including ordering, purchasing, lab organization, equipment, and inventory maintenance, preparation of reports and maintains all relevant documentation.
Conducts a wide range of complex laboratory experiments involving dietary bioactive components and immune function using cell culture models, mouse models, and human subjects.
Performs protein and RNA isolation, qRT-PCR, western blotting, ELISA, fluorescence-actived cell sorting and the corresponding data analysis.
Maintains mouse colonies, including keeping record of the mice, breeding, genotyping, performing injections and tissue collection.
Develops procedures and protocols in collaboration with the PI, including assisting with writing IACUC, IRB and IBC protocols. Oversees enforcement of IACUC, IRB and IBC protocol guidelines.
Maintains a lab protocol and lab inventory database. Assists in the development of new protocols. Responsible for organizing the lab to ensure efficient and safe workflow.
Participates in group meetings and works in a team laboratory environment. Serves as a resource to other laboratory personnel and consults with lab personnel on the literature to identify suitable procedures and methods.
Oversees data management and study documentation.
General Responsibilities
Performs complex and intricate laboratory experiments while following research techniques and procedures.
Develops procedures and protocols in collaboration with leadership.
Prepares research reports or analyses for projects.
Maintains safety records and ensures safety/compliance procedures and protocols are followed.
Provides guidance and support to junior-level staff in laboratory operations.
May develop, prepare, and coordinate grant applications and grant-related activities to obtain funding for research projects and related work.

Working Conditions / Demands
The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. Advertised Salary
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and will fall within department equity. The maximum salary is $48,520.02.
