Position Summary
The Virtual Systems team operates and advances our core compute systems, to deliver virtual server, virtual desktop, and cloud services. The team also works with campus partners and vendors to define compute infrastructure and align these services with organizational needs.
Reporting to the Virtual Systems Team Manager, the Virtual Systems Engineer collaboratively supports the MSU virtual server, virtual desktop, and cloud account infrastructure. This team works closely with the Storage team to deliver robust service suites to all campus customers, to build partnerships that encourage collaboration and cooperation. The Storage team is responsible for backup, enterprise, and file storage services.
Primary duties for this position include:
Works with customers university-wide to deploy new compute hosting solutions. Resolves or escalates customer support requests.
Consults with customers to propose optimized solutions for their workload needs.
Performs systems maintenance, upgrades, and supports projects to life cycle and advance platforms.
Supports process automation, platform consolidation, and customer migrations.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program, and one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with AWS, Azure or GCP clouds/offerings.
Experience with VMware vSphere/ESXi/Horizon or other similar virtualization solutions.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to collaborate in cross-functional and cross-departmental teams.
Experience understanding student, staff, faculty, and business needs.
Experience with hyper-converged storage or other comparable technology.
