Under general supervision perform accounting work that requires basic knowledge and application of established accounting principles and procedures utilizing computerized data information systems.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Analyze general ledger transactions and prepare appropriate journal entries. Produce required routine reports and ad hoc financial reports through work with users and/or leadership. Prepare and analyze information for monthly operating reports.
2. General accounting duties will include work related to the following tasks: • Analyze, maintain, and reconcile general ledger accounts. • Support Treasury function by maintaining lease schedules and reconciling invoices. • Perform functions relating to the processing and payment of invoices in an accurate and timely manner • Regularly interact with buyers, user departments and vendors to resolve issues. Assist with the review of vendor invoices and statements, resolve variances with materials and pricing, monitor freight charges and proper sales tax assessment. • Prepare required filings and reports for RUS compliance. • Assist with the preparation of miscellaneous reports, financial recaps and summaries as instructed which require knowledge of the general accounting function. Analyze and verify various accounts against the general ledger. • Assist with internal and external audit as requested. Including analyses and preparation of schedules for auditors as assigned.
3. Perform other duties as assigned. Perform or assist with special projects requiring knowledge of the general accounting function, financial reporting and applicable accounting standards.
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. Minimum of two (2) years progressively responsible experience in accounting, with thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures applicable to the utility or similar industry. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Utility or RUS accounting procedures and experience is desirable. Preference given to candidates with commodities inventory accounting and/or sales and use tax experience.
Skills: • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite • Ability to manage confidential information • Analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills • Ability to interface effectively with individuals at various levels, both internal and external • Excellent attention to detail • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles • Experience with process improvement beneficial
