Job Overview
As part of an institutional initiative to advance inclusive teaching, the Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS) at Georgetown University invites applications for an Educational Developer with experience in inclusive pedagogies, equity-focused teaching, course design, and faculty development. Our university-wide inclusive pedagogy initiative will introduce a new structure for academic departments to identify and implement DEI goals that relate to course content, classroom climate, and pedagogy. Alongside colleagues from CNDLS and other units across the university, the Educational Developer provides faculty development support for the design, creation, implementation, and assessment of department-based inclusive pedagogy programs and activities.
Working in an integrative capacity with the inclusive pedagogy team at CNDLS, the Educational Developer supports the ongoing mission of CNDLS and provides expertise and leadership for working with departments and individual faculty to enhance inclusive teaching and learning across the university.
Responsibilities include:
In partnership with CNDLS colleagues, develop and facilitate programs to enhance inclusive, accessible, and equity-focused teaching at all course levels, and among all faculty;
Coordinate, schedule, and track faculty-development efforts for campus-wide initiatives related to inclusive pedagogy, and collaborate with key stakeholders across the university, including students, administrators, and staff;
Develop and offer resources, workshops, consultations, training sessions and seminars on key topics related to diversity, inclusion, and anti-racist teaching
Provide inclusive-teaching resources to integrate with ongoing CNDLS programs and initiatives (e.g., Online Programs, Digital Pedagogy, Teaching, Learning, and Innovation Summer Institute)
Communicate about the initiative to recruit faculty partners
Support departments to as they develop inclusive pedagogy approaches and plans; and consult with departments on ongoing assessment on their goals
Support evaluation efforts on the impact of inclusive pedagogical initiatives and assist departments in revision as needed
Work Interactions
Reporting to the Senior Associate Director for Inclusive Teaching and Learning, the Educational Developer is a key member of the inclusive pedagogy team, interfacing with faculty to support them in the development and implementation of their DEI goals; and collaborates regularly with other departments and units across campus, and interfaces with students in the context of focus groups and collaborative initiatives.
Qualifications
Master's degree - preference for PhD;
At least two years relevant teaching experience at the university level;
Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills for building and maintaining collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administrators;
Experience working with faculty on teaching and learning approaches, particularly on pedagogical challenges and strategies related to inclusion, equity, access, anti-oppression, and anti-racist pedagogy;
Knowledge and understanding of current professional development approaches for working with a broad range of instructors around the development, implementation, and assessment of inclusive and equitable teaching practices;
Workshop or equivalent facilitation skills;
Familiarity with the literature on inclusive and equity-focused teaching practices;
A commitment to educational excellence and to new ideas and approaches for strengthening teaching and student learning;
Excellent attention to detail;
General knowledge and understanding of current educational practices in faculty and graduate student development, teaching, and assessment; and
Flexible, well-organized, inquisitive, detail-oriented, creative, and ethical - and prepared to thrive in our busy, diverse, and collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates will be particularly competitive for this position if they have experience/expertise in one or more of the following:
A record of teaching excellence in higher education, including experience with courses where practices and content engaged students in inclusive and equitable learning;
Teaching and research related to issues of inclusivity, accessibility, and/or equity; and/or
Supporting faculty and students from historically under-represented groups
