Director of Development, GUMC Special Events - Office of Advancement - Georgetown University
Job Overview
The Director of Development for GUMC Special Events is responsible for the annual fundraising goals of the Lombardi Gala, Women & Wine, the Men's Event and additional efforts in support of the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC) and Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC). This role will develop strategic event partnerships that maximize giving and stewardship among corporate, foundation and individual donors. This position will directly solicit gifts and manage and support event fundraising volunteers.
These engagement activities are visible by high profile guests, honorees and VIPs in attendance and receive external press coverage. Key university leadership, to include the university president, are also involved. A mastery of protocol surrounding high profile events and individuals is critical.
To that end, the Director of Development will work closely with the Senior Director of GUMC Special Events to develop three primary revenue streams:
Lombardi Gala: With an annual fundraising goal of approximately $1.4 million, the Director of Development will lead efforts to renew existing sponsors and secure new and additional supporters of the event. The Director will be responsible for securing a target minimum of $1 million in support of this event, with a growth target to be assessed annually. Lombardi Women: With an annual fundraising goal of approximately $750,000, the Director of Development will lead efforts to renew existing sponsors and secure new and additional supporters of the event. The Director will be responsible for securing a target minimum of $600,000 in support of this event, with a growth target to be assessed annually. Men's Event: With an annual fundraising goal of approximately $200,000, the Director of Development will lead efforts to renew existing sponsors and secure new and additional supporters of the event. The Director will be responsible for securing a target minimum of $175,000 in support of this event, with a growth target to be assessed annually.
To accomplish these goals, the Director of Development will develop and implement solicitation strategies aimed at creating and growing relationships with both existing and new entities to achieve goals specific to his/her portfolio. Reporting to the Senior Director, GUMC Special Events, the Director will manage a select portfolio of prospective and ongoing relationships with GUMC's corporate, foundation and individual partners. The Director will help to identify synergies and new funding sources, develop and implement successful institutional strategies, and work effectively and collaboratively with campus partners across GUMC and Georgetown University. The Director will take an outside-in approach that recognizes the needs and priorities of event partners and aligns the strengths of GUMC to pursue fundraising opportunities.
Work Interactions
While the Director of Development will collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders, interaction is best conveyed by dividing the two major areas as follows: Internal/Georgetown and External/DC Metro.
